I got the chance to cover the 16U division which was filled with players that can straight up put the ball in the basket. Whether they were knocking down shots from deep or scoring at the rim, here are some of the top scorers I was able to watch compete.
Jaylah Lampley Jaylah Lampley 6'2" | SF Lawrence Central | 2025 State IN | 6’1″ | Class of 2025 | Indiana Blaze 16U
Jaylah Lampley Jaylah Lampley 6'2" | SF Lawrence Central | 2025 State IN and her younger sister, Lola, both are major scoring threats for the extremely talented Indiana Blaze 16U team. If you haven’t watched Jaylah play, you are missing out. She can put the ball in the basket in just about any way you could imagine. She has great ball handling skills. She crashes the boards in such a smart way and can get easy buckets off of offensive rebounds. Lampley has a great pull-up jumper off of the dribble and a great outside shot off of the catch or dribble. Her drives are so hard to defend because she can stop and pop on a dime, she finishes floaters well, and she can really put the ball in the basket around the rim.
Allison Spieker Allison Spieker 5'8" | SG Whitefield Academy | 2024 State KY | 5’7″ | Class of 2024 | Kentucky ICE 2024
Spieker has a way of putting up points no matter what is thrown at her. She’s always an outside shooting threat because she doesn’t let a couple of missed shots get in her head. She can get her shot off so quickly, but she can shot fake and go around you just as quickly. Spieker does a great job of getting into the paint and she knocks down her floaters. She can finish with both hands and she can finish on either side of the basket. The lefty can score from anywhere on the court.
Denyha Jacobs Denyha Jacobs 5'7" | SF Warren Central | 2024 State IN | 5’7″ | Class of 2024 | Lady Team Teague 2024 Majors
Jacobs can get to the hoop where she does an excellent job finishing strong. Her strength really makes her drives extremely hard to defend. However, she can also knock down shots in the mid-range and from 3. Her floaters are consistent and she can finish with contact. If you don’t get a body on Jacobs, she will grab offensive rebounds and score the 2nd chance bucket. She is just really solid all-around.
Hailey Freshcorn Hailey Freshcorn 5'8" | PG Columbia Central | 2024 State MI | 5’8″ | Class of 2024 | MSF Flight 2024
In the first game I watched, Freshcorn’s outside shooting is what really grabbed my attention. However, in the next 2 games, I saw how talented of an overall scorer she is. She did a great job of getting a step on her defender and making hard drives to the basket. Freshcorn was finishing really tough shots around the rim and she wasn’t letting all of the physicality interrupt her finishes even a little bit. When she drew fouls, she could knock down free throws as well, adding to her effectiveness as a scoring threat.
Creedance Chittenden Creedance Chittenden 5'8" | SF Cascade | 2024 IN | 5’7″ | Class of 2024 | IN Showcase 2024 Black
Chittenden was a very efficient scorer all weekend. While you have to pick her up beyond the 3-point line, she is one of the most fearless scoring threats from anywhere on the court. She has good form on her shot and she thrives off of contact as if it only helps her scoring ability. Chittenden was finishing shots with a ton of contact like it was no big deal. She’s got great strength and she plays with excellent intensity every second she’s out there.
Annabelle Babb | 5’8″ | Class of 2024 | Team Firstep 2024
Babb is one of the strongest finishers I saw this past weekend and seeing that she was playing a guard position, and even point guard at times, that’s saying a lot. When she starts her drive, she shows zero fear. She simply finds ways to get her shot off and she does not shy away from contact. When she gets to the line, she knocks down her free throws. She also can shoot the ball, including from deep. She plays smart and she gets her teammates involved.
Savannah Triplett | 5’8″ | Class of 2025 | Kentucky ICE 2024
Triplett has a knack for putting the ball in the basket and she can do it in a number of ways. She is an excellent outside shooter and she’s got great range on her shot. She also has good form and a quick release. On top of shooting, Triplett makes strong drives and has a good mid-range game. She gets to the rim and she gives herself a chance to finish through contact, even when she draws the foul. She also was scoring off of her pull-up jumper and floaters.
