Recently we updated the rankings for the Class of 2024. Throughout the Spring & Summer, a number of players from that class have stood out for one reason or another, therefore there was a lot of movement within our Summer rankings update for that 2024 class. I wanted to discuss a few of those young ladies who have really stepped up their play since our Spring update, so below are seven such individuals.

– Destini has always made major impacts in the games she’s played, but now she’s taking over games at times, basically willing her team to victories here and there. She is strong, tough-nosed, physical, and she plays with an outstanding motor. She is built like a power forward, she moves like a wing, and she can play anywhere from the mid-post to the perimeter effectively. She is best off the bounce, relentlessly attacking the basket, but she’s showing more and more finesse as a wing. She also defends with great effort.

– Shena is a wiry-strong, fluid, and explosive athlete. After watching her the last couple of years, she has gone from being more of an explosive athlete, to being a much more skillful athlete who is starting to understand the game better. She can get on hot streaks as an outside shooter, and what’s tough about her is, she gets through her shot process and elevates before defenders have a chance to react. She’s also extremely long and bothersome as a defender. As her change-of-direction ball-handling improves, watch out.

Takeover 16U
– Kenzie kind of came out of nowhere last Fall and has continued her strong play throughout this Spring and Summer. She has become much more impactful each time out, and she always seems to make some sort of hustle play down the stretch in games. She is strong for her size, tough-nosed, and she plays with a nice motor. She can handle and create, but she doesn’t force too often, and she can knock down open shots. I also like her ability to get into ball-handlers defensively, and she rebounds from the point.

, 2024, 5-8 W, Brownsburg H.S., Indiana Showcase Red 16U
– Emma has always had the reputation of being a dangerous shooter, which is probably why she found a role early at Brownsburg. However, this Spring and Summer she has looked more diverse offensively. She is playing stronger, attacking the basket more, and she’s using the free throw line at times to score some points. She still has a pure stroke outside, and she gets rid of it quickly, with little space. But it’s her willingness to become more of a complete scorer and not “just a shooter” that has really elevated her as a prospect.

– Since about mid-May, Avery has been consistently effective in grassroots play. She is tough-nosed, strong for her size, and she plays with a nice motor and a lot of grit. She does a nice job of getting into the paint and collapsing defenses, and she can finish around sizeable defenders or find teammates on the perimeter or via back-cuts. She is also a very good 3-point shooter, and she can pull up in transition and keep defenses on their heels. Her consistency against upper-tier opponents has earned college attention quickly.

– Samiyah isn’t new to those in Elkhart and St. Joe counties, but she has really impressed the rest of the state with her play this Spring and Summer. She is a long, wiry-strong, and very athletic guard. She loves the ball in her hands, always looking for an angle to attack the basket. The thing is, though, she can make shots outside, and she can pull up in the mid-range game and hurt you there as well. She is just a natural scorer, and she’s tough to defend. With her ability, I think she has the potential to become a lock-down defender, too.

– When Faith was between her 8th and 9th grade years, you could see great potential in her, so it was just a matter of time for her to grow, gain strength, and put all of it together. Now, she is climbing quickly, earning offers from a number of mid to high Division-I programs. She is skilled, can handle the ball a little at her size, and she has touch that extends to the 3-point line. I also think she’s much tougher and more physical than people assume, and she is a versatile, fluidly athletic kid who can play a variety of roles.
