Westfield, St. John Vianney, Morris Catholic, Paul VI and more will be participating in what’s been touted as the most highly-anticipated edition of the event in recent years. It’s considered to be the cream of the crop of summer/fall league basketball in New Jersey, so let’s take a quick look at some of the players that will be participating.
Brooke Baisley – 5-10 SG/SF, Gill St. Bernard’s (2024)
Baisley is the focal point of GSB for this upcoming season, returning as the leading scorer, rebounder and overall defender between steals, shot-blocking and more. People are expecting big things out of her and this gives her the spotlight to showcase what she’s got. Her size is to her advantage as she’s one to really utilize the paint to her advantage. The post is her sweet spot and she does a fantastic job making it her own.
Maci Covello – PF/SF, Kearny (2023)
Covello is one of two fantastic rebounders and forwards on Kearny coming into next season, and when looking at her track record, she exploded offensively as a junior. We really hadn’t seen much of her in that department until last season, when she began to dominate down low and capitalize on close-range shooting. She’s a high-percentage shooter near the basket and she’s not afraid to draw contact as well to get to the foul line.
Dylan Cahill – 5-9 SF/SG, Rumson Fair-Haven (2023)
Cahill is an interesting prospect on this team knowing the sheer talent that RFH has around. Looking at last year’s roster and knowing that senior forward Kaila Scarpa graduated in the spring, that leaves the door wide open for Cahill to take over as the main forward on this team. She’s the best returning shot-blocker, but her rebounding hasn’t been up to the level that I think most people are anticipating her to be at. Her three-point shooting more than makes up for it and is an underrated aspect to her overall game.
Katie Gorski – SF/PF, Montville (2023)
There are three major pieces to this Montville team headed into the season, all of them rising seniors, and Gorski is one-third of that three-headed monster. She’s the best of both worlds, a fantastic offensive player with a knack for perimeter shooting, plus an incredible defender who can go up against most anyone in the state. Her post defending is fantastic and she doesn’t back down on the block, standing her ground well as opponents try to drive in on her. This is a player who averaged over a block a game and nearly two made three-pointers a game as a junior. That doesn’t happen often.
Sanaa Hayes – 5-11 SG/SF, Newark Central (2025)
Hayes will almost certainly be moving up our 2025 rankings because we didn’t truly realize how much of an impact player she was as a freshman for Newark Central. Her defensive statistics are nothing short of insane: 5.7 steals per game, 2.4 blocks per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. She was just as good as teammate Faith Fedd-Robinson and she was doing all of this as a freshman against elite competition. It’s truly insane to think what Hayes can become as she continues to hone in her raw talent and build upon that potential.
