While it would’ve been impossible to watch all 1400 teams, I did catch quite a few teams and players throughout the tournament’s 4 day span. When I looked at my notes at the conclusion of the tournament, there were a little over 100 players that had caught my eye in some way. This series is going to discuss some of those standouts and it’ll be broken down by the division they played in (2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026) rather than the player’s class. This article features some of the standouts from the 2023 divisions.
Avery Treadwell Avery Treadwell 6'2" | C Bearden | 2023 State TN | ETA Thunder 2023 Campos | Class of 2023
Treadwell plays with a high motor and honestly seems like the ideal teammate to have. She’s her teammates biggest cheerleader and the first one to pick them up if they’re down. But all of that only adds to her talent level. The ability to finish around the rim on top of how hard she works out there is truly special. Excellent post moves, great drives to the basket, the ability to shoot, and constant rebounding? Treadwell is a really good all-around player.
Emiyah Cobb Emiyah Cobb 5'10" | CG Clarksville Northwest | 2023 State TN | 2023 TN Sol Black | Class of 2023
Cobb is so quick with the ball in her hands. Pair that quickness with excellent ball handling skills and the ability to change speeds seamlessly, and you can see why it’s a really hard task for defenders to stay in front of Cobb. She proved her abilities to get to the rim, shoot the outside shot, and create for teammates as well. Her court vision and IQ are major strengths in her game. Cobb is also very good defensively. She can play tight and apply a lot of pressure to the offense.
Jalea Abrams Jalea Abrams 5'9" | CG Elmira High | 2023 NY | Elmira Fusion 17U | Class of 2023
Abrams was really handling the ball well and her court vision was impressive. She’s got good length and she is a very shifty guard. Her moves are so quick and effective. Abrams was delivering passes perfectly through traffic. What really made Abrams stand apart was how hard she played the entire time she was out there. She leaves zero questions about the effort she’s playing with.
Trinity Massenburg Trinity Massenburg 6'1" | PF Baltimore Poly | 2023 State MD | Team Takeover 17U Showcase | Class of 2023
Massenburg’s shot blocking abilities instantly drew me in. Defensively, she also slides her feet to stay in front and reads the passing lanes. She consistently ran the floor and used her length to finish at the rim. When Massenburg catches the ball in the paint, she has the ability to go to the basket, kick to a shooter, or shoot it herself. She was also extremely effective in the pick-and-roll game, locating the open areas on the floor and making the right decisions.
Kayten Donley | 2023 Buddy Buckets | Class of 2025
Donley is playing up 2 divisions, but you wouldn’t know that simply from watching her play. In fact, I was shocked to look down and learn that she was a 2025 because she looked so comfortable out there. Donley was finishing through contact around the basket and knocking down shots with a hand in her face from further out. Defensively, she does a great job of keeping her arms straight up and blocking shots without fouling. Donley also puts in the work on the boards and grabbed multiple rebounds.
