On Thursday alone, we saw two different New Jersey prospects knock down game-winning shots as they look to help their programs toward one final summer travel championship.
Up in Connecticut, the Jersey Gemz are cooking up something special and star Holmdel forward Alexandra Loucopoulos put the finishing touches on a trip to the Final Four for the 17U Select team, knocking down a game-winning three to reach the Elam Ending.
Loucopoulos is a big player to watch this coming fall, a rising senior who’s been absolutely fantastic over the past year-and-a-half for the Gemz and Hornets.
It’s safe to say three-point shooting is her forte, having knocked down nearly two a game as a junior and what more fitting way to win a tournament game than with a big time three.
Also at the Mohegan Sun this weekend was United NJ AAU, who sent a number of teams to compete. The 17U Platinum team was there along with rising senior forward Riley Allen.
The 6-0 phenom from Chatham is one that many should have their eyes on this season because there aren’t many six-foot prospects in the state or in the country that can knock down three-pointers at the rate she can.
It makes her inside game that much more formidable and in this game, she used that post presence to get positioning for an easy bucket in the paint, securing the win for United NJ.
She used the backboard to her advantage, laying it up and in. Allen is a multidimensional player, someone who affects the game in a number of ways. I
n her high school career, she’s nearly averaging three made three-pointers a game and has drastically improved her defense down on the post as well.
We’re really impressed with the talent on display and it’s only going to get better as preparations for the fall and winter get into full swing.
