AAU Season just wrapped up for the summer, and coming up shortly will be a fresh new Girls Basketball Season in full-swing. This will be a multiple part article written by myself and Spencer Christenson taking a look at what is in store for the WDA and EDC this upcoming year. It will highlight and give previews of teams/players along with stats of both conferences for 2022-2023. Ready, Set.....let's roll!

Legacy High School:

The Legacy Sabers will be coming back looking for another chance to go deep in the State Tournament. Last year the Sabers went 14-11 overall and 9-9 in the WDA right along side the Mandan Braves. This year they will be bringing back a seasoned squad who is use to playing with each other, and bringing up some younger talent that will for sure be seeing some court time. The returners for the Sabers starts off with upcoming Senior All-Conference selection [player_tooltip player_id="213379" first="Alyssa" last="Eckroth"]. Eckroth has proven to be one of the top players in the WDA/State and her stats and skills tell you why. Last year she averaged 13.6ppg, 36% from the field, and had 141 rebounds. She is a very gifted D1/D2 quality guard that can play all 5 positions when needed, and she will be a big part of their success, just like she was last year.

Along with Eckroth another familiar name coming back is Junior [player_tooltip player_id="218143" first="Mia" last="Berryhill"], a left handed point guard who became a starter for the Sabers midway though the season. She averaged 7.1ppg, 53 assists, and shot 36% from behind the arc. Mia can make teams suffer when you leave her open, and she isn't afraid to take the shots. She is crafty, skilled and has a great vision of the court. She will be a big playmaker and a team leader on the floor as well. Senior Addison Sagaser is another one to keep an eye on for the Sabers, she's shifty and a quality defender, but can also make the shots when they are needed and contributes on both sides of the floor. Last year she averaged 4.9ppg, had 16 steals and 35 deflections.

One of the best parts of Legacy is their young talent as well. One player everyone is really excited to see on the floor is the #2 player in the class of 2025 6'3 Center [player_tooltip player_id="375796" first="Brooklynn" last="Felchle"]. Last year she saw more and more time on the court as the season went on. Towards the end of it she was getting significant playing time and really showed what she is capable of doing. She averaged 5.7ppg and had 100 rebounds in 22 games. She has size, a nice touch around the rim and moves well in the paint, this year I have a good feeling she is going to put up some big numbers.

Other notable players that will be seeing quite a bit of court time are Junior [player_tooltip player_id="458121" first="Taylor" last="Odden"], [player_tooltip player_id="462926" first="Kali" last="Dauenhauer"] and [player_tooltip player_id="464291" first="Whitney" last="Welk"]. Odden can be deadly from all over the floor has speed, and can be a handful on defense. Dauenhauer as is a talented guard who you can expect to put up some points every night, she's moves well and plays good on ball defense. A newer name to keep an eye on is [player_tooltip player_id="464291" first="Whitney" last="Welk"]. Whitney didn't see much playing time last year, but you can be sure she will this year. She's fast, knows how to run an offense, can knock down jumpers and has a great vision when it comes to passing the ball in transition. All 3 of them will be a big part of Jim Petrik's squad.

Minot High School:

Minot High will be coming into 22'-23' looking for the same result they had last year, State Champions. The Majettes are coming back with a loaded young, experienced offense that we all know very well. The Majettes will be returning 2nd Team All-State Freshman [player_tooltip player_id="379041" first="Lee" last="Lee Bell"] and [player_tooltip player_id="342164" first="Maggie" last="Fricke"]. This will be Maggie's 3rd year as Minots starting PG, and she has shown she is a baller. Last year the incoming Freshman averaged 15.8ppg, shot 42% from the field, and an impressive 88% from the charity stripe. She is one of the best young players to come out of North Dakota along with Lee lee, and she will be a known name for years to come. [player_tooltip player_id="379041" first="Lee" last="Lee Bell"] will also be coming back for Minot, much like Fricke she herself was a name everyone became familiar with. In her 8th grade year she worked her way into a starting position, and averaged 15.8ppg, 166 rebounds and added 30 blocks to her stat line. Offensively she is a threat shooting anywhere on the floor, and has excellent ball handling skills for her 6'1 frame. She can play inside or outside, and knock down the three-pointers all day. The scary thing is.....their only Freshman!

[player_tooltip player_id="219714" first="Avery" last="Lunde"] will be coming back as a starting guard as well, last year the upcoming Junior averaged 9.1ppg, shot 47% from the field and knocked down 24 three-pointers. She is a seasoned player who has a keen eye on the court, and knows how to make plays happen. I think this year she will play a huge role as a team leader, and will be adding her fair share of points on the scoreboard this year. Lunde has a great work ethic and is always looking for an open teammate or to score herself. [player_tooltip player_id="100460" first="Maya" last="Aguilar"] another seasoned Guard is one who I have a feeling is going to really break out this year. She has a great "team first" mentality to her, and knows how to put up numbers all over the stat sheet. She comes in averaging 6.6ppg, 105 rebounds. 64 assists and 38 steals. She has proven she is a key player on the offense and works hard all game long.

5'5 Guard [player_tooltip player_id="379179" first="Taury" last="Hight"] will also be coming back for the Majettes and making her impact just as she did last year. As a Junior Hight averaged 5.5ppg, 42% from the field in the 19 games she played in. I expect her to have a big year just like Lunde with knocking down bigtime shots on the floor. One player that I think is going to really turn some heads is 5'7 Sophomore Guard [player_tooltip player_id="457913" first="Karew" last="Lamoureux"]. Last year she wasn't a big scorer for the Majettes but she has a ton of talent ready to be unleashed. Karew is a skilled guard who has top notch ball handling skills and drives the lane hard. I can see her being that one key player to come in and drop some jaws, she's fun to watch, and is going to get better and better.

Dickinson High School:

The Dickinson Midgets didn't quite have the year they were hoping for but nerveless they had some good battles, and are coming back hungrier then ever. This year they will be looking to take a lot of the same talent they had last year. They will be coming back with multiple seasoned players, that have experience on the floor and know how to score. Starting that charge will be lead by upcoming 5'6 Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id="378262" first="Emily" last="Ash"]. Emily last year showed how much of a scorer she can be from all around the floor. Open jumpers, shots in transition and driving the lane she has the skills to make it happen. Last year she averaged 9.1ppg, shot 31% and added 17 threes to her resume, she is a seasoned player and will be the focal point of Dickinson's team.

Along with [player_tooltip player_id="378262" first="Emily" last="Ash"] is 6' Forward Junior [player_tooltip player_id="362927" first="Abbey" last="Dutke"], this is a young lady we need to be aware of, and know she can play. Abbey is one of those players that can play inside and out, and she knows how to use her size in the paint to pull down rebounds, has great handles with the ball, and can shoot from all over. There isn't any specific talent that stands out, but she does a little of everything very well. When she's on watch out, she can turn a game around in a heartbeat, and can hit deep shots as well. Last year she averaged 2.8ppg, and shot 30% from the field, with 28% from behind the arch. I've watched her all summer long, needless to say her work is paying off.

5'11 Senior [player_tooltip player_id="362924" first="Caton" last="Pearcy"] will also be a key player for the Midgets squad this year. Last year she averaged 7.3ppg, 71 rebounds and shot 25% from the field. She has good height to her, knows her role in the paint, and can pull down rebounds off the glass. Not a big outside shooter, but what she does inside will be key for the Midgets. 5'9 Junior [player_tooltip player_id="362774" first="Sadie" last="Stevenson"] will be another big-time player making some noise for Dickinson, she comes in averaging 5.6ppg, and an impressive 43% from the field. She knows how to shoot and isn't afraid to let it fly, her ability to get open and hit shots will be huge for her team. Not only that, but she is a gifted rebounder with 107 rebounds last year.

Dickinson has some very skilled players on their team, it will be fun to watch them this upcoming year with the talent they have on the floor. Look for them to also be getting some help from 6'Junior Jazmin Barry, I expect she will be getting more and more playing time throughout the year as well.
