New Jersey was well-represented in the tournament and 12 of the 15 All-Tourney selections for the 2023/24 tournament were from the Garden State. Having already talked about the First Team All-Tourney selections, it’s time to finish things up with the Second and Third Team selections.
SECOND TEAM SELECTIONS
Shariah Baynes – 5-6 G, Paul VI (2024)
There was plenty of love given to South Jersey in the second and third team selections, starting with Baynes, a sharpshooting guard from Paul VI. Baynes is really settling into a role of being a shooter and looks confident from the perimeter. She complements that with great dribble penetration into the lane and the ability to facilitate to teammates. Baynes has a great opportunity in front of her this upcoming season to shine from the point.
Emma Carman – 5-10 SG/SF, Red Bank Catholic (2023)
Carman, heading into her senior year at Red Bank Catholic, has really rounded out her game well and has turned herself into a bonafide leader on the floor. She plays with poise and composure, picking her spots to attack and dominate. We’re impressed with her ability to score at will on the floor. She’s definitely a prospect to keep an eye on this season as we’re looking at her to take that next leap into being a top tier guard for the Caseys.
THIRD TEAM SELECTIONS
Eva Andrews Eva Andrews 5'10" | CG Paul VI | 2024 State NJ – 5-10 SG/PG, Paul VI (2024)
A teammate in the same class as Baynes, Andrews is another underrated guard that has turned a corner and shined as a shooter. When looking at the best shooters in South Jersey, Andrews is very much in the conversation, someone able to create and score or catch-and-shoot. Really whatever is there, she’ll find a way to get open space or rise up over a defender for a shot. Likewise on the defensive side of the ball, Andrews uses her tall guard frame to catch up to shots, block from behind or simply disrupt someone’s court vision for long enough to make something happen.
Chloe Escanillas Chloe Escanillas 5'10" | CG Rutgers Prep | 2024 State NJ – 5-10 SG, Rutgers Prep (2024)
Escanillas has made massive strides in her game over the summer and she’s continued to push the tempo and push herself further. She’s quite the active presence on the defensive end, able to switch off easily, someone who can defend up top or down low and an athletic player that can chase rebounds or loose balls. We’ve seen her shoot the three well, pull up from midrange with ease or finish down low, but Escanillas has definitely taken pride in her defense and it’s paid off.
Bella Mazur Bella Mazur 5'8" | SG Mainland | 2024 State NJ – 5-8 SG, Mainland (2024)
Mazur is the real deal as a shooting guard and is someone who knows when and where to be at the right place at the right time. That comes from great positioning and court awareness. She’ll find a quick opening down low for a basket in the paint, take a few quick dribbles and pull up from the foul line, or catch a pass from a teammate on the wing and hit a three-pointer in transition. Her game is versatile and ever-growing, but Mazur has definitely found her groove.
Tori Postell – 5-8 G, Passaic Charter (2023)
Postell has been circulating around the AAU scene a lot this summer and into the early fall after a great season with the NJ Sparks. Playing alongside some of the best prospects in the state raised her game, but she’s someone who already had a breakout year with Charter. She’s got a great shooting touch and a quick release on her shot. She’s got breakout speed down the floor and is often the first one to lead a fast break opportunity. Postell is quick and agile, but controlled and physical when she needs to be.
Demi Simpson Demi Simpson 6'0" | PF Teaneck | 2024 State NJ – 6-0 PF, Teaneck (2024)
Another underrated forward, Simpson is slowly working her way toward being a great offensive player. She started out her high school career as a defensive-first forward, someone who was an elite shot-blocker and a big body who can haul in rebounds and cause chaos in the lane. Simpson is still very much that, but she’s learning how to use her size to post up defenders and score from close-range. She’s developing a great hook shot and has much more of a feel of the paint heading into her junior year.
