With another end to a summer ball season having arrived I present to you my all-Kansas Summer Ball 2023 Team. It is composed only of players that I saw play live. Growing a couple over last year to 18 players this team of mine requires to separate articles to give all included the space they need. My stops to see action in person included the MAYB Hall of Fame Exposure and Summer Kickoff events Wichita, the Hutchinson Community College team camp, and the three wildly successful Prep Girls Hoops Circuit events in Kansas City, MO, and Wichita. A limitation on inclusiveness of players and clubs is readily apparent. More than even last summer many clubs and players chose to compete primarily outside the state. Some did compete in state but I did not happen to be where they were playing. Other players did attend events where I was but unfortunately I did not get as quality look at them as I would have liked. Part 1 was composed of point and shooting guards. This part 2 is composed of combo guards/wings/small forwards through power forwards and centers.

Combo Guards & Wings

Southeast of Saline 2023 [player_tooltip player_id='191491' first='Reagan' last='Goetz']. Right away I noticed her speed and athleticism. She was able to score in mid-range and on-the-fly with elevation. Baker has jump shooting ability as well. She recently was offered by Benedictine University, IL.

[player_tooltip player_id='191491' first='Reagan' last='Goetz'], 5'9", Southeast of Saline - Playing with her high school team at the MAYB Summer Kickoff Goetz showed that despite the large graduating class of '22s she is going to be there game-in, game-out. A fast player with good elevation on rebounds and finishes Goetz can play a variety of positions. Due to the team's lack of size and graduation of its best interior defender Goetz will likely take over an interior role on both ends for the Trojans.

[player_tooltip player_id='335960' first='Lucy' last='Hardy'], 5'8", Lawrence, Royalty Basketball - I enjoyed the opportunity to see the 2022 Sunflower League honorable mention in action at a couple of the PGH Dynasty Circuit events. She brings to the table a game I have seen at PGH Top 250 Exposure events. She has good quickness on both ends of the floor and has good bounce defending the ball on the perimeter. She is also very active. Without the ball, she was always on the move coming off screens, making basket cuts or setting screens. She fills lanes correctly in transition, crashes the boards at opportune times, and is a solid perimeter threat.

Cimarron 2023 [player_tooltip player_id='127285' first='McKayla' last='Miller']. Addy ability showed her ability to shoot the 3, post up and showed her mobility. What might've been the most impressive thing she showed was her motor. Brown showed she could sprint from one end of the floor to get a defensive stop to the offensive end to score the ball. Outside of her outstanding rebounding ability, she is an underrated passer that can set her up teammates for major success using herself as a decoy.

McPherson 2023 [player_tooltip player_id='191482' first='Jordan' last='Sears']. Photo: Robert Kelly.

[player_tooltip player_id='191470' first='Avery' last='Lowe'], 6'2", Maize South, SSA Gameball Basketball - For the second summer in a row the University of Nebraska-Kearney commit makes my all-summer ball '23 team. Long, fast, and a good interior passer Lowe thrived this summer as she continued to grow her game. While perimeter shooting is one area of notable improvement what I have really enjoyed seeing is improvement in her overall physicality and her back-to-basket game.

[player_tooltip player_id='191482' first='Jordan' last='Sears'], 5'10", McPherson, SSA Gameball 2023 Ingram - Newman University picked up arguably the steal of the 2023 class when Sears verbally committed to the Jets. After transferring to McPherson from McPherson Home School Sears could only play sub-varsity last season. A dominant player on her club team over the past two summers Sears brings to the Bullpups a little bit of size and a lot of physicality on both ends of the floor. Sears elevates, finishes with either hand, is creative with her half court game, gets to the rim and defends with quickness, and does a terrific job of running the lanes in transition for her ball handlers to find her.

Holton 2023 [player_tooltip player_id='450345' first='Lindsey' last='Wisdom']. Photo: Robert Kelly.

[player_tooltip player_id='94971' first='Rebecca' last='Snyder'], 6'1", Emporia - For the second summer in a row Snyder makes the all-summer 2023 team. Seeing her play with fellow Spartans against many other good high school and club programs at the MAYB Summer Kickoff it was painfully obvious that once Snyder got warmed up and in a flow she was nearly impossible to stop. Having all the skills for a strong face-up and back-to-basket game is one thing but Snyder has the game IQ to know what she wants to do and the ability to communicate to her teammates where to get her the ball so she can do the job. High level play. Snyder is fast, has solid hops, and can be relentless. Expect the Spartans to start the season near the top of the 5A class as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='450345' first='Lindsey' last='Wisdom'], 5'11", Holton - Wisdom debuted in the 2023 class this summer. An impact player is a great short description of her. She has a solid build with offensive quickness off the bounce especially going her right. She also finishes well. A slick reverse layup after an under-the-basket take showed off in a single play her athleticism and creativity around the bucket.

Featured image: Maize South 2023 [player_tooltip player_id='191470' first='Avery' last='Lowe']. Photo: Robert Kelly.
