There are numerous prospects capable of raising the ceiling of their team this season. These prospects have created a lot of momentum from the 2021-2022 season. If they can carry it over, we could be in for some excellent performances this season. This is the first installment of our three-part series of “Under the Radar Prospects” from Birmingham, Alabama.
Emma Kerley 5’11 2026 Briarwood Christian
Emma Kerley is a player that can play all 5 positions. Her understanding of defensive rotations allows her to take high quality attempts within their offense. Kerley attacks defender with straight line attacks which creates lanes to score or to make plays for her team. Off the ball, she slides to open spots created by her defender’s tendency to help on baseline drives. Her movement creates open passing lanes for weakside threes. Being a more than capable post-presence, she displays good footwork via her pro- square ups and reverse pivots for efficient scores. Probably the more underrated part of her game is her passing ability. Emma handles doubles teams by making quick decisions to hit her teammates when they are open on weakside cuts or just the simple strong side play. Her simple decisions keeps the offense moving and helps create good team possessions. On the defensive side of the floor, Emma is a solid position defender. She keeps players in front by using her length to prevent dribble drive opportunities by her opponents. When she defends other post players, she is athletic enough to leave her primary player to take a charge or challenge shots without committing fouls.
Tamiria Jones 5’10 2024 Huffman High School
Jamiria and Tamiria Jones are twin sisters that play for Coach Lin Slater at Huffman High School. Although they are twins, their skill sets are different and allow them both to compliment each other so well on the floor. Tamiria is a combo guard that competes with high energy on both ends of the floor. She has the ability to defend smaller guards any where on the floor. She slides over ball screens with ease and has the quickness to level-up the offensive player to prevent driving lanes for the defense. She has very good closing speed to move from her help position to create steals on many of the strongside to weakside passes she encounters. Tamiria is an aggressive rebounding guard that can turn missed shots into easy transition scores in transition for her team. Tamiria finishes with contact even with her slender frame against bigger players using either hand, which makes her a difficult player to defend. Tamiria under stands angles and using her body to create space so she can score 15 feet and in.
Jamiria Jones 5’9 2024 Huffman High School
Jamiria is a talented forward that can score from the three-point line and in. When she is in the trail position, she makes open looks with ease. She also is very capable of getting the defender on her hip and drive by the defender to score. She has a good basketball IQ. She knows how to exploit match-ups in her favor. Against smaller defenders, she keeps it simple with basic drop steps and step-throughs to create fouls and scores. When she plays against bigger players she attacks via the dribble to score with her pull-up package. One of her biggest strengths is her ability to initiate the break from the post position. Her ability to get the defensive rebound and be a willing passer when she is attacking in transition is an advantage not many teams have. Defensively, she uses her foot speed to level-up forwards and make it difficult for them to score. She also does a good job of not allowing bigger post players to get early deep post-position when defending in the low post.
Teralyn Hill Teralyn Hill 5'11" | SF Parker | 2025 State AL 6’1 2025 Parker High School
Teralyn Hill Teralyn Hill 5'11" | SF Parker | 2025 State AL had a good freshman year. As a Sophomore, she gives Coach Brerante Sledge and Parker High School an athletic post player she can continue to depend on. Her ability to block shots stands out immediately. She recorded double digit blocks multiple times last season. She is consistently on time with her defensive rotations which helps support her teams ability to play man defense. Offensively, she is just scratching the surface. Teralyn can score on all three levels. She helps stretch zone defenses with her ability to make threes from the corners and in the trail position. She is a capable scorer from the high post where she can catch and shoot with consistency. If the defender closes-out, she naturally gets to her right hand and drives to attack the defense. Teralyn can also hurt opponents with her willingness to rim run in transition when her team secures the defensive boards. She has great touch around the rim which allows her to excel in high-low opportunities.
Sarah Kanaday 5’5 2023 Mortimer Jordan
Sara is an efficient three-point shooter that has already eclipsed the 1000 point mark. Mortimer runs a 5-out system that thrives on help defenders leaving shooters open. Sara does a great job sliding into the passer’s vision to knock down threes. She sets-up her defenders and sprints off the stagger screens to create open looks. She uses her inside foot to quickly square her shoulders off of a single and double screen. Sara also does a great job of sprinting wide in transition to open up lanes for herself and her teammates. On the defensive side of the floor, she is a solid defender. She does a good job of staying on the top shoulder of her opponent to allow her to navigate single and stagger screens. She does a good job off anticipating ball screens which allows her to get over the top without forcing her teammate to over help
