Players from all over the state played three games and had the chance to shine in front of college coaches, myself, and Scott Hankamp. I walked away with a list of kids that I can’t wait to follow this year. The competition was intense, yet I saw a lot of kids just enjoying the game. Below are some notes that I jotted down from the event.
Lily Thelen | Portland | 2026
Rebounds in and out of space very well; makes the connecting passes that keeps the offense moving; always seems to be around the ball; just a rookie-this kid is going to be really good as an upperclassman
Merrick Schwalbach Merrick Schwalbach 5'7" | SF Stoney Creek | 2025 State MI | Stoney Creek | 2025
Has a smooth release in catch and shoot situations; solid driver that finds openings; made the pass for the game winning three in sudden death
Alex Davis Alex Davis 5'10" | SF Chelsea | 2023 State MI | Chelsea | 2023
Constant energy; hustles the whole game; seems to pride herself on the defensive end
Damaya Hartwick Damaya Hartwick 5'2" | PG Grand Blanc | 2025 State MI | Flushing | 2025
Kid has one of the trickiest head fakes in the game; slick handles; really looks to get it into the post; despite her diminutive stature, she finds angles to get high passes to post; hit the sudden death game winning three
Hannah Lisch Hannah Lisch 5'5" | PG St. Catherine of Siena Academy | 2024 State MI | St. Catherine of Siena Academy | 2024
Just made an amazing play in transition to corral a pass that was way overthrown- still finished it for an odd angle layup; sweet block; makes the extra pass-team focused; just a solid all around player that makes a team better by doing a little of everything
Ellie Wrona Ellie Wrona 5'6" | PG Spring Lake | 2025 State MI | Spring Lake | 2025
Fearless on both ends of the floor; plays a hundred miles an hour; fun to watch kids play this hard
Malia Thelen Malia Thelen 5'6" | PG Portland | 2024 State MI | Portland | 2024
Had one of the sickest pocket passes of the day; plays the passing lanes effectively; uses body to shield on layups; tweeted about her game
Leah French Leah French 5'6" | SG Engadine Consolidated | 2023 State MI | Engadine | 2023
Nice to see some UP representation; fun kid to watch as she is high energy; master of playing the passing lanes; runs with purpose in transition
Paige Lies Paige Lies 5'6" | SG Lakeshore | 2025 State MI | Lakeshore | 2025
Racked up a ton of steals; dangerous in transition
Makenna Pobocik Makenna Pobocik 5'8" | SF Flint Powers Catholic | 2023 State MI | Flint Powers | 2023
Plays passing lanes with expertise; runs in transition; seeks contact on layups
Diamonique Ross | Hamtramck | 2023
How is this kid not in the PGH database? I love this kid; fights for every ball like her life depended on it; hits tough floaters with contact; there seems to be two of her on the court
Savannah “SJ” Fellenbaum Savannah “SJ” Fellenbaum 6'0" | SF Lake Fenton | 2024 State MI | Lake Fenton | 2024
Wait, she is playing guard- nice to see this versatility to her game; great hands as some of these passes should not be caught, yet she reels them in; nice finish despite being decked in the face; draws a lot of contact, very patient in her moves; a coach on the floor
Adrianna Marsiglia Adrianna Marsiglia 5'8" | SG Kenowa Hills | 2024 State MI | Kenowa Hills | 2024
She’s a glue kid- everything works better with her on the court; sneaky cutter; productive in catch and shoot situations; high IQ on both sides of the ball; plays passing lanes well
