Thelen is one of the more skilled guards that you’ll see around the state. She can work the defense with a swooping drive and even flashed a pretty spin move for a bucket off a jump stop. Thelen moved without the ball all night and forced the defense to react and rotate. She was able to push the pace with both the pass and the dribble, even beating the defense back off the bounce for an easy bucket.

She is adept at making the right decisions when she has the ball in her hands, and she sets up her teammates with scoring opportunities. Additionally, she can score herself with crafty finishes around the rim and is a knock-down shooter. Lawrence Tech is lucky to have her on their team next season, as she is a true steal.

I think Thelen is actually pretty underrated as a facilitator. She’s so steady with the ball and is a terrific passer. Thelen can help get teammates in scoring positions, and when they are, will get them the ball with a pretty pass.

Thelen is a point guard’s point guard. And she can be a basketball coaches best friend. A coach can put her in the game and not have a single worry that there will be mental mistakes or silly plays. Thelen is way to steady for that. She’s a great passer and true team first type of player. I really think that the fact that she’s a coach on the floor type of player could be her calling card at the next level.
