Continue ReadingAAU basketball has received a ton of negative press over the years for a variety of reasons, but the biggest reason is that fundamentals aren’t taught. The Michigan Mystics Club is trying to break this mindset with their every Sunday Queen of the Court. Close to 100 girls, from Grades 8 to 12, went through a series of drills aimed at improving footwork, shooting, screening, and defense. There were six stations, but I chose to post up at the 3 v 3 station and got to see some kids showcase their skills.
Reese Gohsman Reese Gohsman SG Milligton | 2025 State MI | Millington | 2025
Reese is a two way player that excels as a shot blocker despite being a wing; while she has the ability to rise up for the swat, she used position and verticality to record multiple rejects. She sets screens at the proper angle and rolls off of the screen well. She also showcased a solid jumper.
Jordyn Egger Jordyn Egger 5'9" | PG Mount Pleasant | 2025 State MI s | Mt. Pleasant | 2025
Jordan is a high energy kid that was always around the ball. She rebounded in and out of space, picked up a couple of blocks, and stepped into the passing lane with positive impact. Her on the ball defense was solid and positioned well in help. While she did not showcase her offensive skills today, she has put up points every other time I have watched her.
Aria Dottery Aria Dottery 5'6" | SG Powers Catholic | 2026 State MI | Flushing | 2026
She was by far the top player in the freshman group. Her fundamentals were at the top of the group, where she rolled off of picks with solid footwork. Her on the ball d was solid, as she stayed in front of the ball handler. She recovers well and had some help side blocks. Her jumper was in effect today; Aria was given space due to her quick first step and physical drives.
Maria Tessin | Midland High | 2024
The junior is a heady, high energy kid that is a solid glue player. She puts herself in the proper position on both sides of the ball. This year will be her first year on the high school scene after sitting out last year after transferring from out of state.
Liv Linden Liv Linden 5'7" | SG Hartland | 2023 State MI | Hartland | 2023
The recent Lawrence Tech commit is still grinding. She showcased strong drives and jaw dropping passes. While she is known as a scorer, she could be a kid that makes four to five “oh wow” passes a game.
Malaya Brown Malaya Brown 5'7" | SF Grand Blanc | 2025 State MI | Grand Blanc | 2025
This young girl could prove to be a scary defender for GB. She moves her feet and has quick hands. She drives with a purpose and physicality that I love.
