Who to watch at the PGH Freshman Showcase
In this article:
A show of their own. That’s what the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase offers this year’s incoming 9th graders. With the PGH Top 250 Expos having grown so dramatically across the country, the powers that be at Prep Network felt it would be better for the younger players to have their own stage on which to strut their stuff. Thus, the Freshman Showcase was born, and the events held in Georgia, Massachusetts, Ohio, Indiana and Texas have been highly successful. On Sunday it will be Minnesota’s turn. The action begins at 10 a.m. at Hopkins High School.
The Freshman Showcase has attracted a Who’s Who of Minnesota’s Class of 2026 led by arguably the top three prospects in the grade: Maddyn Greenway Maddyn Greenway 5'8" | PG Providence Academy | 2026 State MN of Providence Academy, Tori Oehrlein Tori Oehrlein 5'10" | CG Crosby-Ironton | 2026 State MN of Crosby-Ironton and Lanelle Wright Lanelle Wright 5'8" | PG Minnetonka | 2026 State MN of Minnetonka. That’s just the beginning. There were 106 players who registered. Unfortunately, Kate Amelotte Kate Amelotte 5'11" | SF Wayzata | 2026 State MN of Wayzata – a likely Top 5 in the class – got hit in the head with a soccer ball this week and won’t be able to participate. The majority of the potential members of the first 50 ranked prospects in the Class of 2026 will be in attendance. For the others it is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate that they belong in such elite company. The first ranking of this grade – the Freshmen 50 – will occur at the end of the month.
Each team will play three one-hour games beginning at 10 a.m. All of the athletes will receive equal playing time. Prep Girls Hoops scouts, and those from other scouting services, will be on hand to evaluate the players. College coaches will also be in attendance with many more watching live and later on BallerTV. The doors open at 9 a.m. and admission is free.
