In my opinion, this is the best time of year for 2023s to be making their commitments, so they can get started with a fun senior season without the added pressure of looking for offers. This means we get to see many of these athletes get back to just having fun playing the game that they love while striving for a championship to cap off their high school careers.
Congratulations to all of the following athletes from the latest commitments!
Barnes will be taking her talents to Texas next season with Odessa College. She has been been able to elevate over opponents with ease to show off her shot or grab a rebound. She moves quickly up and down the court finding ways to push the tempo whether she takes it all the way to the hoop herself, or she finds an open teammate filling the lanes for some points. She is tough on defense not shying away from contact, and she can certainly find ways to jump in passing lanes to grab the steal.
Xerras has been one of the best shooters in the state for a while now, and she is taking her talents to the northeast for Connecticut College. She can shoot off the pass showing off a quick release, and she can also create separation with her ball handling to put up her shot. She navigates through defenders with ease filling the gaps to find her teammates for a pass or to show off her own nice finish at the rim. Her court vision is college ready knowing how to facilitate plays and get the ball where it needs to go in order to score points for her team.
Brooks has committed to Embry-Riddle. She is a fun player to watch because her height and strength allow her to guard anyone on the defensive side of the ball, and on the offensive side of the ball she’s a dominant point guard. She constantly keeps her eyes peeled up the court to find open teammates cutting to the basket in transition or looking for the defensive gaps to fill the lane herself to score some points. She does well reading her opponents on defense knowing when to jump into passing lanes or even close out in order to block shots.
Gueterman will be joining another Lady Attack Elite teammate Mary Spry as she commits to play next season with Catawba. Gueterman has been exceptional showing off post moves on the block, and she has been working to expand the floor even more knocking down shots from deep. She can drive to the basket herself from the top of the key, and she does well staying ready for a pass in transition to score on a fast break. She’s quick laterally being able to defend guards, and she can prevent post players from scoring in the paint.
Batista will be staying in NC playing for Belmont Abbey. Batista has really taken advantage of filling in various roles for her teams stepping up where they need her most. She has been known to dominate the block with her post moves, but she can certainly step outside the paint to put up a jump shot. She constantly moves on offense finding the gaps and making the defense shift to try to prevent her from scoring. She is a shot blocker using her wingspan to protect the basket.
