SubscribeThis past weekend, Sonora High School in La Habra, CA played host to the 4th annual Hope Scholastic Showcase. The event featured some of the top high school teams from California, Nevada and Arizona. I was able to attend the event on Sunday, Oct. 2 and I focused on the CA teams. Here’s a look at some additional top standouts I saw.
1. Amya Moody – ML King 2025
Moody stood out as a good combo guard. She can handle the ball and be a facilitator and she can create her own shot and be a scorer. She’s a good passer in the pick and roll finding the screener rolling to the basket. Makes good entry passes. Looks for her teammates in the halfcourt and is a solid passer in transition. She’s quick off the dribble, does a good job using screens to get free. Draws fouls off of drives and gets to the free-throw line.
2.

Elisaldez is a player I’ve seen a couple of times before and she is solid point guard. She pushes the pace well in transition and keeps her head up while dribbling; finds the open teammate running the break. She can break down the defense off the dribble and is able to consistently get into the paint and finish at the basket. Consistent shooter from three off the catch.
3.
Jayda Cobbs

Cobbs stood out as a good shooting wing. She can shoot from three off the catch and can shoot with the defense closing out. Consistent from either side of the court. When she catches the pass at the three-point line, she’s already squared up and ready to take the shot all in one motion. Not afraid to take, and make, clutch shots. She’s able to attack closeouts and get into the lane.
4.
Aliyahna Morris

Morris is a point guard that gets better each time I watch her play. Defensively is one area where she always stands out. She’s quick and hounds the ball-handler keeping in front and forcing them to pick up their dribble. Finds the open teammate and makes good entry passes. Solid handles and under control against defensive pressure. She can get into the lane and finish through contact and can shoot consistently from distance.
