That is where we come in. Over the next several days and weeks, Prep Girls Hoops will offer in-depth previews of every region in the state as we give our take on how we believe every region will play out this season in addition to spotlighting where we believe every team will finish.
We have looked a lot at the regions that occupy Class 2A. Next up in that list of regions is Region 6-AA.
In addition to what she has accomplished with the Red Devils, Mitchell has also participated in grassroots basketball with Carolina Shockers. She previously played at Estill where she began her varsity career when she was only a seventh grader. Mitchell played a major role in leading Wade Hampton to the second round of last season’s 2A tournament. Listed at 5-foot-10, she primarily operates as a power forward with the ability to stretch the floor. Along with the plays she makes close to the rim, she adds a 3-point shooting dimension to her team and is also effective as a rebounder.
The Warhorses have a noteworthy senior classes that will depart from the halls – and basketball court – of Barnwell HS at the conclusion of spring semester. Hammonds can prove her effectiveness and efficiency as both a scorer and a rebounder. She provides an element of versatility in the sense that she can log minutes as either a guard or as a small forward. Defensively, she bolsters the Barnwell efforts by gathering steals and creating extra possessions for her team. Hammonds has statistically improved with every season that she has played and one can certainly expect her senior campaign will be no different.
Creech is the second of the two seniors that will depart from the Warhorses at the close of the school year. Since she also plays softball which is a spring sport in South Carolina, she stays busy athletically throughout the year. She typically plays the four while being listed at 5-foot-11. With her shot blocking capabilities, it is not easy to put points on the board against her. As gifted a rebounder as she is, she does not give teams many opportunities for second-chance points. Creech has played with Carolina Shockers during the AAU months of the spring and summer as well.
(*PGH Preseason Player of the Year*)rnPrep Girls Hoops became familiar with Kitt throughout the offseason and travel campaign. Kitt wore the Team USC Unleashed 2024 uniform and her travel team made a couple of appearances on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit’s Triumph Region. In addition to basketball, she has also played volleyball. At a tall 6-foot-1, she uses every bit of her height advantage to come up big with high-percentage shots. Kitt plays the game on contact and has no problems taking her opportunities at the line. If she is unsuccessful with a free throw attempt, she is likely to haul in her own rebound.
Geddis was not only an important part of last season’s Wolverines team, she was integral enough to earn team captaincy duties. She, as was the case with her Woodland teammate Kitt, also ran on the grassroots circuit with Team USC Unleashed 2024. She played in all 21 Wolverines games last season and averaged 11.4 points. A hallmark of Geddis’ game is her ability to attack the rim and weaving through groups of defenders in order to finish at the rack. Defenses are unsure on how to guard her when she has the ball in her hand since they are unable to tell if she will attack or drain the 3-pointer. Geddis can play as either a one or a two guard.

Carter previously played her middle school basketball in nearby Yemassee at North District MS. She brought her talents to the high school level and proved she has all the tools to play and thrive against the best in the state. Wade Hampton is moving from Region 5-2A to Region 6-2A. Among Carter’s skillset includes the ability to understand when the right times are to score and to pass. She also helps out by bolstering the Red Devils colors. The only question is in which direction will her basketball career go after this season given the consolidation of Wade Hampton HS with Estill HS.

Prep Girls Hoops became very familiar with Leverette during the spring and summer months of AAU since she participated with H2 Lowco and they made a few appearances on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit’s Triumph Region. Her grassroots squad had five wings and Leverette was one of them. Leverette delivers consistent hustle – including when she can track down an opponent in search of a transition layup to prevent the basket. Her quickness allows her to get from one end of the floor to the other and she is an accurate shooter from range. The Jaguars qualified for the second round of the playoffs last season.
Prep Girls Hoops predictions:
Wade Hampton – Do not expect a sophomore slump for Carter in 2022-23.
Barnwell – The Warhorses saw the Red Devils on three occasions last season – and lost all three.
Woodland – After qualifying for the playoffs last season, the Wolverines are in search of a deeper playoff run.
Ridgeland/Hardeeville – Can Leverette lead the Jaguars to better fortunes this season?
Edisto – The Cougars last posted a winning season in 2015-16.
