About Janiya
Expert Analysis
Bret Swanson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
The left-handed quick hard from Ridge View was over the place at times today with her play. Janiya keeps the ball low to the deck and really plays quick in the open court. She for certain wants to play fast and up-tempo. Janiya started off her high school career down in the Lowcountry at the now closed Wade Hampton HS in Varnville.

Prep Girls Hoops recently made a trip down to the home of the 2A Red Devils to see the team take on region foe Barnwell. Wade Hampton won by a final of 54-37 and Carter contributed 14 points to the Red Devils efforts. Her speed and agility is on full display whenever she takes the court with her ability to get through defenders and deliver strong finishes at the rim. Her ability to be a ball distributor as well as a standout defender compliment what she gets done as a scorer. Carter is in her second season at Wade Hampton and has led the Red Devils to a 16-4 season – among the class of 2A teams.

Carter previously played her middle school basketball in nearby Yemassee at North District MS. She brought her talents to the high school level and proved she has all the tools to play and thrive against the best in the state. Wade Hampton is moving from Region 5-2A to Region 6-2A. Among Carter’s skillset includes the ability to understand when the right times are to score and to pass. She also helps out by bolstering the Red Devils colors. The only question is in which direction will her basketball career go after this season given the consolidation of Wade Hampton HS with Estill HS.
