St John’s
Grace Rustay [2023]
Rustay used her size and body well around the basket and did a good job of rebounding on both ends and scoring on putbacks. She also showed she could score inside the paint using solid moves and did a good job defensively
Adley Halligan [2024]
Halligan was one of the best long-distance shooters at the event and watching her pull up and drop from somewhere around NBA range was nice because it helped start, as well as change the momentum several times. She showed she could take the defender off the dribble and finish and she did a good job playing the passing lane
Wheatley
E’Lasia Yarbrough [2023]
Yarbrough is a battler and watching her go after the ball off the rim was more than refreshing as well as her countless scoring after the offensive rebound. She has a nice first step which enabled her to score, after contact, and she showed a nice pull-up jumper, both in the set as well as in transition. Her playing passing lane a few times was also nice
Anaiyah McHenry [2024]
McHenry used her body well on both ends of the court, she rebounded fiercely and had a huge one on the offensive end where she scored on the putback as well as a short jumper to cut her team’s deficit to 4.
Kashmere
Arianna Masters [2023]
Masters has always been explosive and her taking the defender off the dribble has been one of her “go-to” moves since I’ve been watching her in elementary school. The pull-up jumper is nice yet her “on the ball” defense was amongst the best at the event as she helped force players into traps as well as cause turnovers. She falls into that “never takes a play-off” type of player
Breonia Gordan [2023
Gordan also caught my eye in elementary school, well maybe the 6th grade yet my SIXTH-SENSE back then told me to keep an eye on her. She’s an athletic guard that uses her athleticism well on both ends, she applies baseline-to-baseline pressure defensively and scored from multiple angles off the dribble. Her pull-up jumper keeps the defender honest because she can drop it
Fort Bend Christian
Evyn Carpenter [2023]
Carpenter sang another hit as she was one of the offensive standouts of the opening session. Her midrange game was smoking, she understands how to set the defender up to get her shot off and knocked it down with a hand in her face. She also scored off the dribble and finished a few times after contact. She rebounded strongly and played the passing lane
Brooke McAnulty [2023]
McAnulty stands around the magic number which is 6’0. I wrote 6’1 and I’m probably close but just watching her perform well on the interior with nice hands and footwork had me smiling. She also rebounded on both ends and did a good job defending
