When you play on a traditional power in the Fox Valley, you’ll play with other good players, and that’s not news, but how well McGinnis played in her first season of FVA ball is. What the now sophomore did that was impressive was how active she was away from the ball. You’ll rarely find McGinnis standing still. Due to that, she found herself with plenty of easy points. The other primary aspect of her game is her shooting. The Papermaker was a 36% 3-point shooter last season, and there is no reason that number doesn’t get better this season.
D5 gets overlooked for a few reasons. However, Bauer showed she could carry an offensive load at that level. In multiple games, this season, Bauer’s shooting was the difference between winning and losing for Lourdes Academy. I love kids with the confidence to take the responsibility of taking big shots when they have to, and Bauer isn’t shy about letting it fly when she has the space. The now sophomore is also a good lead guard who makes aggressive passes and runs her team’s offense smoothly in high school and AAU.

I have no question that Schroeder will find a home at the next level when the time comes because she’s always busy on the floor. I only saw her play once this summer, and she left a massive impression on me. Usually, only football players get called “ball hawks,” but I think that term described Schroeder well. She’s a taller wing at 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10, and she excelled playing full-court presses. It felt like she covered most of the floor and created the havoc intended with that press.
Highlights
The Bulldog worked her way into the starting lineup last season, and that’s impressive, considering how good that team was. What made her so valuable was how well she played her role. She wasn’t a ball-dominant guard and did everything she could to maximize possessions and create extra ones. She rebounded well and would always put herself into open space on the weak side on the blocks or the corner. With some roster changes and injuries, don’t be surprised to see Helm improve statistically this season.
