All of those sounds will soon be making their returns to South Carolina as we are closing in on another exciting season of high school hoops across the Palmetto State.
Throughout the past several days and weeks, Prep Girls Hoops has provided comprehensive, in-depth previews of every region in the state. We are spotlighting the key players to be on the look out for as well as where we believe which teams will finish where in the standings.
On the SCISA side of things, we have unveiled our 1A and 2A previews. Now, it is time to move onto Class 3A and a few important names to watch out for.
Delaney had herself a banner season with the Indians. She led Orangeburg Prep to a near upset of Hilton Head Christian in the 2A SCISA title game at Sumter Civic Center in a season that saw coach Jan Stoudenmire reach the 700-win plateau. Delaney has also made a name for herself in the cross country space. She also managed to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her career. She can play productive minutes either in the backcourt as a guard or as a small forward. Delaney is offensively versatile as she can knock down her attempts from either midrange or at the free throw line.
The Crusaders know a thing or two about Pringle. She stands at 5-foot-9 and and typically operates as a small forward. Pringle can put points on the board early and often, but if she has having an off game early on, expect her to right the ship as a contest wears on. In addition to providing clutch baskets from the field, she can also do so from the line on the heels of absorbing contact. Pringle is versatile since she can score either from the low post or from 3-point range. She is poised to bring a scintillating end to her high school career.
The same that applies to Pringle can also apply to Pringle’s teammate. She transferred from the SCHSL ranks at 4A Westwood over to the Crusaders last season. As is the case with Pringle, Parker also primarily plays the four and is the same height as her. Parker approaches every game she plays with a heads-up attitude which enables her to make plenty of plays. She also has no issue with contact that can put her at the free throw line. Parker maintains a high level of activity and energy on both ends of the floor and the low post is one area where she butters her basketball bread. A lefty finish also part of Parker’s offensive repertoire.
Becker also is a two-sport athlete, but it is not the common volleyball, soccer, softball or track as is the case with many of her peers. Becker has participated on the swimming team with the Griffins and won a 200 free relay state title in 2021. On the basketball court, she is versatile as a shooter as she can put the ball through the basket from either long range or midrange. She thrives at the four and is listed at 5-foot-10. Making accurate passes to her teammates as well as bringing down rebounds are two other strong areas of her game. Becker can be tough to score on as she will block shots and plays the game with a heads-up mentality. One can also count on Becker to convert on high-percentage shot opportunities near the rim.
It was not that long ago when it was revealed that Peduzzi would continue her athletic career in volleyball at UNC Pembroke. The basketball realm will miss Peduzzi, but she will be fully embraced by the volleyball space in college. Peduzzi has also played soccer along with basketball and volleyball. Hoops-wise, she is a skilled rebounder who wins her fair share of battles on the boards. She also provides plenty of hustle and will absorb contact to get to the free throw line. Peduzzi primarily plays at the three and can disrupt an opponent’s passing lanes with an ability to deflect or intercept said passes.
(*PGH Preseason Player of the Year*)rnHutchinson, in her first season, transferred to the now 3A Eagles from the soon-to-be defunct Estill and immediately made her presence felt. She led the Eagles to a fourth consecutive SCISA championship as a Class 2A team then translated that success into a stellar showing on the grassroots realm with H2 Lowco. Hutchinson approaches every matchup with a tenacious mentality. She will attack the rim with regularity and can also drain her shots from long range. Hutchinson excels as a ball distributor and is willing to draw contact and find her way to the free throw line. She is ready for the challenge of 3A opponents.
Speaking of gifted juniors that comprise what will again be a tough Eagles team to contend with, Yarde is another Hilton Head Christian star that translated the momentum from winning a SCISA 2A championship into a noteworthy time on the grassroots circuit with H2 Lowco. The cross country/track and field realm is another athletic discipline Yarde has been part of. Yarde can drain her attempts from midrange and puts plenty of emphasis on taking care of the ball to limit turnovers. She has emerged over the years as one of the leaders for the Eagles and that will be even more the case as she enters her junior season.
Suddeth stands at an even six feet and thrives as a volleyball player in addition to what she gets accomplished on the basketball court. Her hoops development is continuing to progress in a positive direction and one can see this with her improved play. She can finish at the rim with both hands and takes no plays off. Suddeth can make plays on both offense and defense and can turn offensive rebounds into two-point putbacks. In addition, she helps her team as a screen setter and can affect an opposing team’s passing lanes with her ability to deflect said passes. Suddeth is also accurate from the foul line.
Yonce arrives at Orangeburg Prep from Wardlaw Academy and has already athletically immersed herself with the Indians as part of its volleyball team. Softball is another sport that she has played throughout her athletic career. Typically, Yonce will play as a power forward in the frontcourt and her 5-foot-8 frame comes into play when bringing down rebounds. She is unafraid to draw contact and will take her chances at the free throw line. Yonce will also display her confidence as she will call for the ball when she is certain she can make a play. She will be a major boost to the Indians as they cross over from the 2A end of things.
Termini is another multi-sport athlete who has participated in grassroots basketball with H2 Lowco. Another discipline of choice is the track and field realm and is a name familiar to Prep Girls Hoops given her AAU team participated on the Triumph Region of the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit (including the Southeast Slam at Daytona Beach, Florida). Volleyball is another sport that she has participated in. She is gifted as a shot blocker and a defender. What Termini gets done on defense can translate to what she does on the offensive end of the floor. Termini plays with a high basketball IQ, will absorb contact to get to the free throw line and consistently finds herself at the right places at right times on the court.
