Some of the best teams in the state, as well as Canada, showed up to see how much growth happened in the off season. While there was a lot of early mistakes and uncertainties, there were some amazing performances, both team and individual.
Talyah spent way too much time on the disabled list last year, which robbed Michigan of the chance to watch some epic performances. The senior speedster came out with vengeance on both sides of the ball. Her speed off the bounce puts constant pressure on defenses, and her relentlessness on the press does the same.
Sophie is another solid guard in the Howell tradition. She is a smart player that is always ball hawking. She uses quick hands to pick off passes and feasts in transition. She is a strong straight line driver and plays well through contact.
A coach is lucky to have a kid this versatile. She can break the press as a point guard, but she can post people up with great positioning and footwork.
Highlights
Good teams have kids that communicate; Maddie was one of the best communicators on Saturday. She is a long athlete that can impact both sides of the court.
Erica Risner

I had a chance to talk to some kids that had to guard Erica, and the consistent theme was that she is super strong. She holds her position and has a killer drop step. Defensively she walls up well.
Rylan was one of the more dynamic guards at the Mega Scrimmage. She has a calmness to her attack and sets defensives up with change of speed and feints. She also has the ability to terrorize ball handlers as a defender.
The Mercy product is a kid that will be playing past her high school eligibility. Kids that shoot the rock as well as she does will always find a home.
Mariah Cross

I loved watching Mariah play. She is just a hard nosed, fearless kid that rebounds bigger than her size and is a ball hawk. She has great feel for passing the ball. It’s crazy that she is only a freshman- Wayne some how gets another great rookie.
