I took notes and I noticed players that made a big impact for their school and I liked what I saw. Here are a few comments and feedback from my observation at the tournament, and I look forward to checking in throughout the season on the players and the success of their team.
Jillian Crawford: good energy off the dribble, attacking the gaps and finishing through contact. She is an active player and is at her best when she is moving. She is a threat off the dribble, attacking the basket, and finishing in the paint. She has a competitive spirit and plays to win and definitely sets the tone for her team.
Brooklyn Smitherland: cames off the bench but has the talen and ability to contribute immediately defensively and shooting from deep. She is a solid defender and had the assignment of guarding the other team’s best player. Has a lot of potential and I anticipate her will continue to grow as a player.
Highlights
Janiyah Williams: Talented player that moves on the court at a different speed than everyone else. Played with an aggressive mindset, getting to her spots no matter who was guarding her. I have seen her have better performances but make no mistake she is a player that will figure it out and explode when it matters.
Ama Musik
Ama Musik
Ama Musik: is a spark plug for Bixby. She plays with energy and is ready to make a big play when the opportunity presents itself. She can shoot but is most effective attacking the basket, rebounding, and playing physical. Finishes through contact, and gives a lot of effort on the defensive end.
Sophia Lopez: Athletic guard that plays with energy but remains under control. Sophia has a poised demeanor appears to remain locked-in on the court. Defensively she plays with a hand in the passing lane, rotates well on the back side, and has active hands pressuring on the ball. She has good size and can guard multiple positions. She attacks gaps aggressively and under control. She can handle the ball but doesn’t force it. She plays with her head up and is a willing passer. She has good footwork in the paint and can stop on a dime off the dribble and shoot over the defense.
N’kiyah Burge
N’kiyah Burge
N’kiyah Burge is a long, athletic forward with loads of potential. She is an active player that plays with a lot of energy and hustle. She uses her size and athleticism to outwork the opposing team. Defensively she is able to guard multiple positions and displays good lateral quickness. Her length gives her an advantage and with so she is able to make an impact on the court, getting deflections, rebounds, and blocks. She plays strong in the paint and has good footwork to finish around the rim. She can shoot the mid-range jumper and will run the floor and score in transition.
Kiara Smith is an athletic off guard with size and good lateral quickness. She displays her athleticism on both ends of the floor by attacking the basket when the ball is in her hands and being active on and off the ball defensively. Her on-ball pressure is high-level and she can intimidate the handler and will take the ball away if you don’t know what you are doing. She is a ready shooter, stretches the floor and shoots the ball at a high level from deep. When attacking she uses her body and can finish through contact well. She plays under control and takes care of the ball.
Highlights
Macy Marracinni: smooth point guard that controls the pace of the game and gets her team involved, floor general. Quick hands on defense, toughness, and has the relentless mindset to attack the basket and finish at the rim, even through traffic. She is usually facilitating but she is good on the perimeter and can shoot the heck out the ball when it matters.
