Most of the teams came from across the state of North Carolina, but the two teams who came from out of state ended up playing each other in the championship. Here are some of the out of state standouts from these teams.
Let’s start with the Crusaders from Morris Catholic.
Mia Pauldo attacked the basket after grabbing the steal and pushing it all the way up the court. She sees the floor well finding her open teammates underneath the basket with ease. She had a beautiful full court pass finding her teammate cutting up the court in transition. She did a nice job penetrating the paint to draw her opponents towards her to open up the court for her teammates. She showed off her shot from deep in the fourth quarter when her team was pulling away with the lead. She anticipates on defense jumping into passing lanes for the steal. She was a tough defender constantly stripping the ball from her opponents.
Mya Pauldo had a nice in and out move getting by her defender and battling through contact at the rim. She is very quick handling the ball taking it up the court battling through contact at the basket. She can shoot it from deep, too, showing her ability to score on all levels.
Alexis Rosenfeld was a strong presence in the paint being ready to grab rebounds and put them right back up for her points. She knew how to read the floor finding the gaps or clearing out space as her teammates drove to the hoop. She was a rebounding machine on both ends of the court.
Daniella Matus had a nice shot from deep that she showed off on multiple occasions. She found the gaps on defense getting lost for the open shot and stayed ready to shoot off the pass. She flashes in and out of the arc shifting her opponents to get open.
Now, here are a couple of athletes from Purcell Marian.
Darriana Alexander had some nice moves getting to the paint and elevating over her opponents for some points. She had a nice flash inside going up high for the pass, settling in, and scoring her points. She can take the ball coast to coast on her own attacking the basket. It seems like her teammates can throw the ball up anywhere near the block, and she will make sure she can go up to grab it.
Jayda Mosley did a nice job looking inside making smart lob passes into her teammates to convert some points. She doesn’t need to make that extra pass, though, as she can hit the shot from deep even in transition. She had four threes in the semifinal game showing strong game adjustments when the opposing team took away the inside game for her team.
