Heading out east to UNC Pembroke is a high motor guard in Anastasia Sinclair Anastasia Sinclair 5’7″ | CG South Mecklenburg | 2023 State NC . She plays tough on both ends of the court driving hard to the hoop finishing at the rim, and she can strip the ball from her opponents grabbing a steal over and over in every game that she plays. She has great vision on the court finding her open teammates and appearing to be a step ahead of her opponents knowing how a play is supposed to develop and where she needs to be getting the ball. We are certainly excited that a NC school has picked her up, so we can continue to see her thrive at the next level.
Taking her talents to the northern bordering state of NC is Skylar White Skylar White 5’6″ | PG E.E. Smith | 2023 State NC at Virginia State. White has been an exceptional point guard in her high school career finding ways to make her move with the ball running full speed to get around her opponents. She can stop on a dime and pull up for a jumper while her defender is still running. She uses the quickness on the other end jumping into passing lanes to grab steals to take the other direction.
With her eyes on Boston, Miya Giles-Jones Miya Giles-Jones 6’1″ | SF Terry Sanford | 2023 State NC is heading to Northeastern. Her entire high school career, she has had the eyes of everyone in the gym as she can do a little bit of everything. She can body someone on the block using power dribbles to have her way and move people out of the paint for rebounds. Her pull up jumper elevates over her opponents and goes in from anywhere, or she can take it to the house all on her own. She handles the ball well using fakes to create space and find her open teammates for their own points.
Lucky for us Charlotteans Betsey Burnett Betsey Burnett 5’8″ | CG South Meck | 2023 State NC is staying in the area committing to Johnson C Smith. Burnett has shined as a ball handler pushing the tempo, driving hard to the hoop, and showing off her three point shot. She leaves it all on the court on both ends even being aggressive on defense knocking the ball away from her opponents and taking steals the other direction. She does well taking control of the game and knows how to slide over to a shooting guard position running backdoor cuts and being patient for plays to develop to make sure her team scores some points.
Another athlete heading to Virginia is Maggie Houpt Maggie Houpt 5’8″ | SG South Meck | 2023 State NC with her commitment to Roanoke. Opponents constantly yell “shooter” when Houpt catches the ball, and spectators quickly learn why as she can knock it down from deep. She finds the open areas of the court, so she can easily catch the pass and put up her shot. Her focus is fun to watch as someone could have a decent close out on her shooting, and she still finds ways to put it through the hoop. She’ll certainly grab steals for her team on the other end, too.
The mountains are calling, and Sydney Hayes Sydney Hayes 5’9″ | CG Alexander Central | 2023 NC has responded as she commits to play at Lees McRae. Hayes has a specialty of the catch and shoot always being ready to put up her shot knowing how to catch the ball, shift it in her hands, and shoot the ball before her opponents even have a chance of closing out. Unfortunately for opponents, she can do this all over the court including beyond the arc. She even does this running full speed on backdoor cuts knowing how to find the gaps on defense. On her own defensive possessions, she isn’t shy about diving on the floor going after loose balls.
