Continue ReadingHarris did a little bit of everything in Hillgrove’ 53-51 win over North Cobb Christian. Her defense keyed her offense, forcing turnovers and getting out in transition. Amaya was effective as a playmaker when attacking off the dribble. She finished with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 1 block.
Yolanda Floyd Yolanda Floyd 5’7″ | CG Hillgrove | 2025 State GA might be one of Hillgrove’s best long-term prospects. She has a smooth offensive game that produces points from all three levels. Yolanda netted a baseline pull-up jumper and sank a three as part of her team-high 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Floyd led a balanced attack that saw six Hawks score seven points or more.
Following a quiet first half, something clicked for Alex Whitecliffe Alex Whitecliffe 5’7″ | PG Cherokee | 2025 State GA as she kicked her game into overdrive as she helped the Warriors finish strong in a 65-55 loss to Lovejoy. With the Wildcats having a short bench, Whitecliffe applied pressure with her on-ball defense as Lovejoy started to run out of gas, outscored 18-10 in the final quarter. Even with the game out of reach, Alex hounded the Wildcat backcourt, turning ball handlers multiple times before they could initiate the offense. Whitecliffe finished with 9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Every time I watch her, I come away impressed with her effort and ability to fill the stat sheet.
Collins has the green light. Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe likes to play at warp speed, pressing and taking quick shots. Christen led the team in scoring last season at 17.7 points per game and on Saturday, posted 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. The lefty loves the three-point shot, making a living on the right wing where she drained four threes. Collins gets shots up early in the shot clock and is a threat to pull in transition. While her three-point shot stands out, Christen is also a very good ball handler that has a variety of moves to beat pressure. She scored on a pair of drives, implementing a floater in traffic. Christen will continue to climb up player rankings and recruiting boards as her career progresses.
Another key cog in the guard-oriented Warrior roster, Angel Simmons Angel Simmons 5’4″ | CG Lakeview-Fort Oglethopre | 2023 State GA is an aggressive defender that wreaks havoc in the press. She plays with a great motor and will track down ball handlers as she goes for steals. On offense she will let it fly from the perimeter and is a solid rebounder for her size. She moves the ball well, a big part of how LFO collected 15 assists in their 70-34 win over Denmark. Simmons tallied 14 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks.
Lopez flashed spurts of her high-level offensive talent, netting three three-pointers, scoring on a left-handed drive and getting a hoop off a steal. Hannah was a bright spot as the Danes were under assault all day by the Warrior press. When Lopez had the ball in her hands, typically Denmark had successful possessions. She had a lot of burden placed on her to beat the press and then organize the offense. Her ability to shoot off the dribble and handle the ball had LFO fans impressed. I liked how she was vocal on the floor serving as a leader, instructing her teammates on where to be. Hannah finished with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal.
Emma did a nice job rebounding and recorded a balanced stat line with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks. She scored around the rim in traffic on putbacks and went 4-5 from the foul line.
