New Offers, Top Performers, and a Top 5

This used to be one of the more quiet times in high school basketball, but that is the case no more. Whether it was at Elite Camps, Individual showcases, or fall leagues, girls from across the state hit the hardwood once again this past weekend. There were some familiar names doing their usual things and several emerging players kept their stock high, including one new offer.    Right before posting this article I looked down at my phone and saw that London had posted her Top Five schools. I remember it like it was yesterday when she burst onto the scene for Newton and she has gone on to have an outstanding high school career. If you are looking for someone, a point guard, to run your team, then there is no better choice in Georgia. She can score when she wants and needs to from all three levels. I am not sure there is a better passer in the state, either. Defensively, London is an absolute menace- hounding ball handlers and creating steals, turning offense to defense. She will try to leave on a high by winning another ring and state championship for Newton before going onto the college level. I look forward to seeing her finish her high school career and wish her the very best on the next level. She will choose her college destination from the following five schools- James Madison, South Florida, Dayton, Memphis, and Georgia Southern     It's been a busy end of the Summer for Morris that saw her [program_tooltip program_id='1237402' first='HER' last='Elite'] team reach the 17U division Final Four on the Nike EYBL circuit before finishing with a championship in the Mamba Invitational All Star game playing with and against the best players in the country, Morris did what she does. There may not be a better scorer in the country in the 2029 class and some would argue beyond that. Morris is a threat to score as soon as she crosses halfcourt and she demonstrated that the last five months leading to even more offers. The last two coming from Minnesota and Maryland. She finished with a very impressive stat line in Saturday's fall league win over Fannin County with 17 points, 8 rebounds, one block and one steal.     Fresh off an excellent Elite camp at Lees-McRae which saw Shepard rewarded with her first offer, Jadyn with 17 points, including five three pointers made, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and one steal in less than half of game. on the court. She has done an excellent job leading this very young team all Summer long against very good competition. Jadyn is one of the more efficient scorers in the state regardless of class and is really coming into her own as a player the last few months. With a few more elite camps on her schedule could find herself holding 1-2 more offers before her junior season starts.     Michelle is about as reliable and consistent as any player in the state rebounding the basketball while also being a threat to score in the painted area. I watched Michelle play several times this summer with Redline and Lanier. It was de ja vu all over again every time as she used her explosiveness and power to clear the glass on both ends of the court, while putting the ball in the basket around the rim with her dominant left hand. Ezumah does a very good job blocking and altering shots on defense as well and does not hesitate sprinting the floor in transition looking for easy scores. Normally in that order. She is one of the more underrated players in her class who has the chance to be a big time addition to the right college program. After week one of the Sandy Spiel Fall League, Michelle sits in the top 10 in both points (16) and rebounds (8) which comes as no surprise here.     There may not have been a more impressive stat line from the action on Sunday at the Sandy Spiel Fall League as Whelchel finished the game with an impressive 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. She was equally as good in the game I saw Sequoyah play at Wofford Team Camp in July, but the ball just would not go in the basket for her that day. That did not keep her from having a huge impact on the game and being a major reason why her team won that game as she stuffed the stat sheet in virtually every other category. She was able to change that game with her speed and quickness on the defensive end and pushing the ball in transition. Jayden is one of the better 2029 prospects in the state and I really look forward to watching her play again.     Hood, like [player_tooltip player_id='785712' first='Michelle' last='Ezumah'], is going to be a solid contributor in college no matter where she lands. Not only does she have the size and skill at the post position that college coaches are looking for, but also the strength which was on full display as she finished through contact at the rim each time I saw her play this summer. She was especially good in the games I watched her play for Union County at the North Georgia team camp where she paired very nicely with Bristol [player_tooltip player_id='1242017' first='Davis' last=''] in the frontcourt. She was back at it again producing at a high level for Union County on Saturday with a 14 point, 11 rebound double-double performance in the win over Lanier. She is like a bull that doesn't break the expensive China in the shop.     Matthews is a player who I started hearing a lot about at the beginning of this past high school season with Creekview. She was like a sprinter busting out of the gates to start the season shooting the basketball at a very high percentage for the eventual state champions. She continued to be a consistent rebounder and scorer for the Lady Grizzlies throughout the season while also continuing to become a very good shot blocker in the paint. At nearly 6' tall with excellent athleticism, Brenley is a very good prospect for college coaches who utilize the stretch four position on offense. She is very quick which allows her to blow bye bigger, slower defenders on the perimeter and can really get off the ground, allowing her to finish over defenders with relative ease whether it's from three point range, 10-12 feet, or slashing to the basket. After a very good performance at Shorter Elite Camp, Brenley earned her first college offer this past weekend. with several other division two schools showing serious interest, it will not be her last.
