The players below put on a shooting clinic at Tournament of Champions this week. Shooting light out and bringing so much excitement to the game.
Taylor Bilby
Taylor Bilby
Fierce competitor that works hard on the defensive end. She stays locked-in on her defensive assignment and displayed good lateral quickness. She can handle the ball and handle the pressure when it comes. Taylor is a player that quietly provides so much value on the court. Her strongest quality is her shooting ability. She runs the floor well to get to her spots in transition, hands are ready, and soon as the ball touches her hands – it goes up and very often goes in. She provided a steady production from behind the 3-point line all tournament.
Shayna Hendrix
Shayna Hendrix
Long point guard that takes care of the ball and uses her length to see over the defense and make passes when under pressure. She is poised when handling the ball and is able to attack the open gap, finish at the rim or draw the foul. Ready shooter that will hit the big shot if left open. She is a threat from deep and made four 3-pointers in the first-round vs Holland Hall, including the winning 3-pointer to finish the game 48-45. She is an underrated player that can shoot the ball at a high-level and she possess a rare quality of remaining calm under pressure.
Jaile Rother
Jaile Rother
Long shooting guard that can put the ball on the floor to attack and shoot it from deep. Defensively she works hard and is in the correct spots. She is a ready shooter and if she catches it in rhythm wide open – count it. She shot really well and she doesn’t quit on plays, made a buzzer beater on Day 1 vs Bixby and continued her shooting spree vs Holland Hall on day 2.
Very deceptive player, quick – crafty handles and good footwork off the dribble. Fundamentally sound, and a team player that will allow the game to come to her. She has the ability to take over and make big time plays. High basketball IQ and takes care of the ball, and she can score in bunches. She is a super threat beyond the 3-point arc and is very effective in the midrange – skilled shooter.
Highlights
I have said it before, and I will say it again, Ellie is arguably one of the best shooters in the state of Oklahoma. Stretches the floor and stays ready to let it fly. When she catches the ball, she has a unique ability to freeze her defender just by looking away or jabbing with a her shoulder, and if the defender hand goes down, then she lets it go, and yes it goes in. It’s like poetry in motion. She is disciplined on defense and uses her length to protect the rim. Smooth jumper in the mid-range and beyond 3-point line. She doesn’t show much emotion but she is a prime-time player.
The more I catch Kate on the court, the more she impresses me with her poise, consistency and production, and yes as a freshman. She is cold-blooded from behind the arch and its fun to watch. Feet are already set before she catches it and there is no hesitation to let it fly. I like the confidence and I can see something special there with her game. Defensively she is working to get better everyday, and her size makes her a threat at the basket.
