Big time shot maker for the Lady Spartans. In the closing moments of a tied scrimmage against LCS, Wernli stayed calm, set up her defender and drilled a stepback three for the win. Shot it lights out from three throughout that contest. Even on a balanced and deep squad, the Lindenwood bound squad is a clear go to scorer. Should be the first of many heroics for her this year, as Bixby looks to make their 6th straight 6A State Tournament.

There’s quite a few Lady Spartans who could be considered among the best shooters in Oklahoma. And while Wernli is a skilled and savvy all around player, there’s no denying that deep shooting is a key part of her DNA. That shooting ability has led Bixby to a few State Tournaments and opened the door for Wernli to go D1. As she’s committed to Lindenwood (MO).

Wernli is a fun all around offensive player to watch. She can get active in the mid-range. Drop dimes all over the court, while also being physical on drives. But when she catches fire from deep, watch out! She’s simply a producer and has been a key part of a Bixby team that simply keeps winning games and reaching the State Tournament in Class 6A. Earned 1st team All District and District Offensive Player of the Year honors as a junior. Has already committed to D1 program Lindenwood.

Swiss army knife offensive hub for one of the best shooting teams in Oklahoma. Finds open spots in the mid-range and the perimeter, where she is seemingly automatic when she had a clean look. But can also be on the ball and by a physical driver. Who also has the eye and vision to thread the needle to cutting teammates. Or swing it out to open shooters along the perimeter. Wernli has a lot going in favor of her game, with a highly productive junior season. But her shooting ability from deep should continue to open doors at the next level.

Strong guard/wing, who is often the offensive focal point for the Lady Spartans. Was dialed in from distance on Friday with at least four made three pointers. Plays physical on drives, with good fundamentals and touch as a scorer at the basket. Her vision is a key part of the Bixby’s guard heavy offense. Wernli is a consistent offensive hub that helps their offense flow and rack up the points for herself and teammates for one of the best teams in 6A.

“Film Watched” via social media Good perimeter shooter, who in this video always follows through and finishes high. Looks to have some ability to put it on the floor, with good touch around the rim. Tough on defense, uses plus wingspan to block shots or deflect passes. Can see the “3 and D” upside for her.

Game Watched: vs Union February 29th
The versatile wing could be a candidate for many of the superlative articles, but the way she shot the ball in the clutch moments stood out the most. She drilled big three and three in the fourth quarter of Bixby’s win over Union. Many of them were of the catch and shoot variety, including deeper looks. There was also a time where she pushed the ball in transition, probed the interior, then found herself left wide open from three. The result was a swish. Wernli’s ability to push it off of defensive boards and other transition opportunities is one of the aspects that makes her game unique. She’s has some point guard qualities to her game, while having the height and capabilities of a wing. It was also a game where she adjusted from having some turnover issues in the first half, to turning into a locked in playmaker and scorer who was a big reason why Bixby won.

The more I catch Kate on the court, the more she impresses me with her poise, consistency and production, and yes as a freshman. She is cold-blooded from behind the arch and its fun to watch. Feet are already set before she catches it and there is no hesitation to let it fly. I like the confidence and I can see something special there with her game. Defensively she is working to get better everyday, and her size makes her a threat at the basket.
