We stayed the day at the John Rhodes Sports Center watching some of the Palmetto State teams in attendance.
Marion defeated Myrtle Beach HS 31-23 in opening round action. Both of these squads will be looking to the future with very young rosters. Marion counted on Jaeda Davis Jaeda Davis 5'0" | PG Marion | 2025 State SC and Maliyah Williams Maliyah Williams 5'1" | CG Marion | 2026 State SC to provide leadership on the floor. Davis a fast-paced point guard wants to get to the basket in attack mode every time she touches the ball. Jaeda was able to show off a few mid-range jumpers at times today.
Williams does a really good job of swarming the ball on the defensive end of the floor along with staying active on both ends of the floor.
The Lady Seahawks were led by freshman Ja’Riyah Kennedy Ja’Riyah Kennedy 5'7" | SF Myrtle Beach | 2026 SC today. Kennedy a left-handed shooting guard was able to connect on some short jumpers.
Waccamaw HS defeated a very young Orangeburg-Wilkinson HS program today 34-33. The Lady Warriors was led by senior shooting guard Kiara Smith Kiara Smith 5'6" | SF Waccamaw | 2023 State SC . The Bruinettes are still looking for leadership on this young roster for Head Coach Cedrick Simpson. 8th grader Joliyah Robinson was able to make a few plays today for the squad. This team will look for a new leader and suffer some growing pains this season while preparing for the future. Ayami Prior Ayami Prior 5'5" | PG Waccamaw | 2027 State SC is an 8th grader to keep a eye on down the road for the Lady Warriors. She has a big-time MOTOR and was extremely active in the passing lanes today.
Westlake (GA) defeated defending two-time Class 1A State Champion Military Magnet in the second game we were able to watch. The Lady Eagles started off slow and just never got back in this game. Sabri Mitchell Sabri Mitchell 5'9" | SF Military Magnet Academy | 2025 State SC is a long and rangy forward who play best around the basket or getting out in transition. She was quite active in the passing lanes today for the Lady Eagles. Senior guard Rykia Jakes Rykia Jakes 5'5" | SG Military Magnet | 2023 State SC was able to get into double digits with her play from the perimeter today.
Kelsey Willingham Kelsey Willingham 6'1" | PF Westlake | 2023 State GA was way too much for the Lady Eagles to handle down low in the paint. Willingham worked block to block and finished with 24 points. She finished with both hands and showed a nice jump-hook at times today. Kelsey has soft hands and shows array of moves around the cup. She finished from elbow with some short jumpers.
Teammate Destiny Givens Destiny Givens 5'4" | PG Langston Hughes | 2024 State GA really exploded to the basket while pushing the tempo all day long. She was able to penetrate-kick to the open teammate while touching the paint with ease. Destiny changes speeds very well and was constantly around the ball to make a play for blue and white.
Crestwood HS defeated Loris HS in the Sylvia Hatchell Division on the opening day of action. The Lady Knights got plenty of production from Tashiana Farmer Tashiana Farmer 6'0" | PF Crestwood | 2023 State SC down low in the paint. Farmer is a long and very athletic forward who brings good versatility to the floor. She’s still a RAW talent with her ability. Tashiana runs the floor extremely well and shows to be a quick leaper off the floor. Farmer is an UNSIGNED SENIOR looking to play anywhere next season and out of the area she told Prep Girls Hoops. She finished with 28 points in the win today for the Lady Knights.
Janiya Richburg Janiya Richburg 5'9" | SF Loris | 2025 State SC just brings TOUGHNESS and effort every time she touches the floor the Loris HS Lady Lions. She finished with 14 points in the loss vs Crestwood HS. Janiya does whatever her coach wants her to do at times. She brings versatility to handling the rock up the floor or playing down on the block.
