Friday, we released the Winter rankings update for the Class of 2023. There were more than 25 new additions, plus a few players who raised their “stock”, so to speak, so subsequently there was some movement throughout the list. I wanted to take this time to circle back and address all of the ranked prospects, position by position. Below is a look at 27 combo guard prospects who make up 10.8% of the rankings this time around, with analysis on a handful to “keep an eye on” detailed at the bottom.

KEEP AN EYE ON:
Lauren has performed well throughout her career, but she has saved her best for last, posting her highest scoring and assist averages of her career thus far as a Senior. She is a tough-nosed kid, she plays extremely hard, and she flies around the floor with a lot of energy. She can handle the ball and run offense at times, she’s good attacking the basket, but she’s more so known as an accurate perimeter shooter who can consistently make shots outside, and with good range. If there are any small colleges looking for a scoring lead guard, Lauren could be a great option.
Savannah is a kid who I like to call a “substance” ballplayer. She is a solid on-the-floor athlete, she has some strength to her, and she’s fairly physical for a guard. What’s most impressive about her, however, is she has a keen understanding of the game, a solid feel with the ball in her hands, plus she can play multiple roles. She has a solid handle and can act as a game manager as a point guard. She’s a solid downhill attacker and can absorb contact. She’s also a very good perimeter shooter who can get on hot streaks. She has played well so far in her first year for the Lady Raiders.
A year ago, Preslee acted as more of a facilitator and traditional point guard, playing alongside Indiana All-Star Zoe Stewart. But with Stewart’s departure, Preslee has stepped into a much bigger role offensively. She is a nice North/South athlete, she plays with a solid motor and some toughness, and she has some physicality to her game. She has taken her 8.8 scoring average as a Junior and extended it to 18.6 points per game as a Senior. She can also really shoot it outside, she rebounds her position well, and she’s an effortful and somewhat versatile defender.
