The Favorite:
Haven continues to be one of the best players in the state, regardless of class. She’s 4th in the state in scoring at 24 points per game and is leading Rowan in nearly every statistical category. The Murray State signee has been at or near the top of this class for years and Rowan does a great job of promoting her. That stuff matters.
Close Behind:
Kensley is leading the state in scoring by almost 4 points per game. She’s leading the state in field goal percentage and is top 50 in rebounds. So why isn’t she the favorite? This is only my opinion but Rowan is constantly promoting Haven while you don’t hear as much about Kensley. Rowan also beat Lawrence County last week head to head. And that’s the sort of stuff that sways voters. Either would be a great addition to the Miss Basketball lineage.
Sleeper Pick
I’m not sure that Destiny has a real chance to win the award but it’s possible that she could steal some votes along the way. After an ACL tear, Thomas has bounced back and is having an awesome season for one of the state’s best teams. You can find her in the top of nearly every KHSAA statistic too. Don’t sleep on Thomas snatching a few votes in Western Kentucky.
