Prep Girls Hoops took a trip over to Orangeburg County yesterday to take in a few games at the MLK Showcase at Bethune-Bowman HS and Lake Marion HS. The event featured several games on the boys and girl's side. Let's find out what happened when Prep Girls Hoops was in attendance. #RecruitThePalmettoState

1st Stop of the Day was over to Bethune-Bowman HS located actually in Rowesville just south of Orangeburg 9 miles. The first game was an absolute barn burner from start to finish. [player_tooltip player_id='323979' first='McKenzie' last='Beard'] was fouled with no time on the clock and stepped to the foul line to make 2 of 3 shots for the Andrew Jackson academy Lady Warriors. Beard tied the game at 38-38 with North HS and we were headed to overtime. McKenzie was too much inside for the Lady Eagles to handle at times. She would get downhill with the ball and used her shoulders and arm to clear out defenders. McKenzie looked to engage in contact for most of the game on her way to 15 points.

Beard joined forces with her younger sister [player_tooltip player_id='582735' first='McKinley' last='Beard'] down low in the paint for the Lady Warriors. McKinley just an 8th grader finished with 12 points in the overtime victory 47-46. Beard was crucial in the second half with her timely baskets and rebounds on both ends of the floor. Beard actually just jump-shots from the foul line standing a few inches away when she made a trip to line. [player_tooltip player_id='582738' first='Rileigh' last='Barnes'] just a sophomore added a quiet 8 points in the game for the victory.

North HS Lady Eagles were led by underclassmen [player_tooltip player_id='582739' first='Keyosha' last='Hammond'] and 8th grader [player_tooltip player_id='582734' first='Coco' last='Charley']. Hammond finished with 22 points according to my unofficial stats. Hammond was able to connect on 5 three pointers when she wasn't dropping a floater in the lane. Hammond has the green lite just Charley for Head Coach I'rek Hartwell. Charley stands under 5'0 but plays like she is a lot bigger at times. She has no problems putting up jumpers from the perimeter with a side of confidence. Charley finished with 13 points in the loss for the Lady Eagles.

The Lady Indians (11-5) prevailed in this one behind the strong play of [player_tooltip player_id='370103' first='Taylor' last='Spencer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='582740' first='Ahleria' last='Leaphart']. Spencer did her work from behind the three point-line as she finished with 19 points while connecting on 5 three pointers today. Taylor played on the ball a lot on the ball today as the lead guard. She surely feels most comfortable playing the game as a shooter on the floor. She connected on some short mid-range pull-up jumpers along the way. Spencer came into the contest averaging 20.9 ppg while connecting on 35% (45-130) from downtown.

Leaphart played the game in attack mode all day long for the Lady Indians. Ahleria a left-handed slasher deluxe was always around the ball and looking to make a play on the defensive end of the floor. She constantly brought ball pressure to the defender and for her efforts picked up a few steals along the way. Leaphart finished with 13 points in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='582736' first='Kylie' last='Morton'] just a freshman for the Lady Indians showed some flashes in the second half with her play. Morton got loose for 8 points all in the second half.

The Lady Wolves were without the services of Cal State Northridge signee [player_tooltip player_id='158943' first='Amiyah' last='Ferguson']. Ferguson got hurt the night before and decided to sit this one out on the bench and cheer on her teammates. The Lady Wolves (11-8) were led by freshman shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='582737' first='Zion' last='Prioleau']. Prioleau has a quick shot release and was able to connect on 13 points today. She was able to hit open shots when given the opportunity. [player_tooltip player_id='368611' first='China' last='Greene'] is surely not the biggest kid on the floor. She makes up for that with hustle points on both ends of the floor if it means leaking out in transition for a lay-up or diving on the floor for the loose ball. China finished with 7 points today.
