I wrote about Clear Creek Amana earlier this season when it took on Solon, and you can read that report HERE.
Here’s a rundown of players who stood out in this contest:
Peyton Simpson
Peyton Simpson
On an off night for the Mustangs, their leading scorer, Peyton Simpson, still managed nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor. She knocked down 1 of 2 from behind the three-point arc. Simpson is a tough guard capable of scoring from deep or getting to the basket. She possesses a nice blend of physicality and finesse. That works on both ends of the court.
Brynley Rasmussen
Brynley Rasmussen
I hadn’t heard much about Rasmussen coming into this scout but came away very impressed. She’s a physical presence with an advanced post game. She can shoot it well with both hands. She gets to her spot and holds it well, providing an inviting target for post feeds. She rebounds and defends efficiently with long arms. She grabbed a team-best five rebounds in this game and contributed 10 points, hitting 5 of 8 shots from the floor.
Courtney Franck
Courtney Franck
I’d watched a good group of freshmen already this season, and Franck fits right into that club. She shows an advanced game and court awareness for her age. She plays effectively on and off the ball defensively, which you don’t always see from young players. She offers a well-rounded offensive game. She scored 10 points on 3 of 3 shooting from the field, including canning both three-point attempts.
Chloe Meester
Chloe Meester
Meester showed that she’s more than one of the state’s top volleyball players. She carries her height well on the basketball court, displaying athleticism and agility. Her length in the lane creates an imposing obstacle for opponents attempting to penetrate to the basket. She posts up strong and passes well when doubled down low.
Like Meester, Lower is a force in volleyball. Like Franck, Lower rates as a high-level freshman who is going to be a problem for opponents for years. She came off the bench to drain all five of her trey tries in this game, helping the home team pull away in the first half. She finished with 18 points on 6 of 6 shooting. She shows picture-perfect form on her shot with a quick release. She doesn’t force the action and finds open teammates when her shot isn’t available. She handles the ball well, can rebound and defends.
Mount Vernon, like most Clipper challengers, directed a lot of attention at the talented Locklear. To her credit, she moved the ball to open teammates who obliged by knocking down 13 three-pointers. She still managed 11 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. She also played strong defense in the post. Locklear is a fundamentally sound and smart performer on both ends of the court.
Sam Schrage
Sam Schrage
Schrage gets lost in the shuffle on a talented CCA team at times, but she plays her role to perfection. She handles and passes the ball well, helping the Clippers run good half-court sets. She’s a threat from all three levels on offense, finishing this game with eight points on 3 of 5 shooting. She’s long and quick, which helps her defend multiple positions.
