Continue ReadingKaty Reyerson Katy Reyerson 6’2″ | PF West Marshall | 2023 State IA has been nothing short of spectacular during her senior year campaign for West Marshall high school. Reyerson, a university of Norther Iowa basketball commit, has been everything the Spartans have needed and more this season as they hope to make it to the state playoff. Throughout their first 18 games they sit with a 17-1 record while Reyerson is averaging 19.5 PPG, 12.5 RPG, and 7.1 APG. This gives her the ranking of #1 in assists and #5 in total rebounds in the class of 2023 throughout all of Iowa thus far. When looking at the season that she has put together it’s easy to see how she is going to be used immediately at the next level. She is a diverse talent with great basketball skill. Her length and size play nice for the forward spot in high school but will most likely move her to the 3 position on a college court because of her ability to pass and see the floor. The 3A class is stacked with a group of great teams at the top and throughout the top 10 so once the first few rounds of the playoffs are completed we will see who has the best chance to make it to the state tournament. As of now I anticipate West Marshall and company to have a good shot though with Reyerson at the helm. If they can get far enough ahead she will have a chance to average a triple-double (Pts, Ast, Reb) on the way to a state championship. An accomplishment that wouldn’t be able to be put into words
Audi Crooks Audi Crooks 6’3″ | C Bishop Garrigan | 2023 State #42 Nation IA and Bishop Garrigan are looking to repeat as state champs for back-to-back seasons but before that can happen they are going to need to continue the dominance they have been showing up until this point in the year. Crooks, the Iowa State women commit and #1 ranked player in the 2023 class in Iowa, has been doing her usual work on the floor this season for Bishop Garrigan high school on the way to an overall 16-1 record, with their only lose coming to Hopkins high school in an out-of-state contest that tipped of their season. Thus far she is leading the 2023 class in scoring with a combined 525 total points scored, bringing her points per game total to an overall 31. An insane number if she were to end the season this way, which is more than possible at this rate. She is also grabbing just about 13 rebounds and 3 assists per game for the Golden Bears. It’s to no surprise that this is the season Crooks is having right now as many people were expecting this taking into effect the class and competition level that has been placed across from her this season and in years past. I anticipate that she will be seeing the floor immediate at Iowa State and will be apart of their “long-term” game plan as a program. It’s not every day that you get to work with a player like Audi at any level so it’s going to be excited what the Cyclones program can put together with all the talent they have coming in from the Iowa-side over the next few seasons.
Kelsey Joens Kelsey Joens 5’10” | SG West Liberty | 2023 State IA are West Liberty high school will have a chance at making the state playoff but that will all depend on how much Joens and the Hall sisters can carry them. Joens, another Iowa State women’s basketball commit, has been putting up some big numbers this season as expected after her transfer to 3A West Liberty high school from 5A Iowa City-City High. Coming into today she has recorded a team high 417 points throughout her 17 games this year. Ranking her #3 at scoring in the state overall for the senior class along with moving her scoring average to an impressive 24.5 PPG on 43.3% shooting. Joens has always been known as a shooter. It doesn’t matter if it was on a national AAU circuit, during a high-school season, or even in an off-season pick up game. Her pure shooting ability will leave her with a nice college career as it is, not to mention what can happen once she expands her game with more practice time at the next level. Looking forward to the rest of their season they are going to be in a similar position to a lot of other teams around the state as they will have to get a lot of help from their surrounding stars to move forward. Teams going into a match-up against the Comets will know about Joens and will try to force the ball out of her hands. If they can do so, then it’ll be on everyone else to step up and make some plays. I would be interested in seeing this take place as I would like to see Joens do all the other things it takes for her team to win other then just scoring the ball. Her scoring ability is second to none but how will she adapt when everything is against her? We will see.
Kylee Schleisman Kylee Schleisman 5’4″ | PG South Central Calhoun | 2023 State IA may not be a name you are too familiar with at the moment but she is distributing the ball at such a rate that it needs to be talked about. Schleisman, a senior leader of South Central Calhoun high school, is currently averaging 7.5 APG throughout their first 16 games this year on the way to a 12-4 record. Ranking her #2 in the class of 2023 in assists and #2 overall in assists throughout all classes in Iowa this season. If these numbers don’t tell you enough then just go and watch her for a game. It is impressive the way she can dish out assists and get all of her teammates on the floor involved. This is a group that prides themselves on teamwork and team-play. They work for each other, move off the ball well, talk at all times on the floor, always stay positive, and most importantly they are dedicated to each-other . All stuff which starts from the top with their coaching staff, point guard, and senior leaders. This also shows that this is well functioning group that is going to make a push once the playoffs start, beginning with the unselfish play of Schleisman and moving down the roster.
Molly Joyce Molly Joyce 5’7″ | PG Bishop Garrigan | 2023 State IA was one of the best point guards in the state coming into this season and will be one of the best at the end of this season too. Joyce, the Truman State women’s basketball commit, has dished out a team high 112 assists throughout their first 17 games this season. Ranking her #3 in total assists in the state. Joyce is currently putting up 16.8 PPG, 2.9 RPG, and 6.6 APG, showing off that she knows how to get the ball to her playmakers while also being able to score at a good rate herself. A lot of people out there think that it is easy to average these numbers because of the post player on her team being unguarded 1-on-1 in Audi Crooks Audi Crooks 6’3″ | C Bishop Garrigan | 2023 State #42 Nation IA but it’s the things you don’t see on paper which I love about Joyce’s game. She is a floor general, a good decision maker, and knows how to run a good program. She is the player that demands the best from her teammates on the floor while doing what she can to guide everyone to success. She has this ability of making the players around her elevate to a higher level of basketball play, it’s truly something special to witness. I’m excited to see what she is going to be able to accomplish the rest of this season moving forward and for her college career.
