Many schools from across the state were able to compete and show off their talents. These players were making contributions in many different areas, especially when their teams needed them to the most.
Kailyn Young had a nice bounce pass up the court threading the needle between defenders to find her open teammate cutting to the hoop on a fast break. She was tough on defense knocking the ball away from her opponents pushing it up the court. She expands the floor being able to knock down her shot from deep.
Highlights
Samantha Meyers
Samantha Meyers
Samantha Meyers has a nice stroke from deep even making it in transition. Her ability to find the open spots on the court was crucial for her team being able to find her for some points. She uses shot fakes to get around her opponents for some midrange jumpers, too.
Raven Lexander uses her height to get inside driving against contact. She is excellent at making one move and blowing by her opponent to score some points. She didn’t shy away from reaching in to strip the ball from her opponents on defense, and she seemed to have a knack for tying up the ball to gain possession.
Lola Richardson is a nice post handling herself in the paint being ready to catch the pass, turn, and shoot. She executed plays well finding the open areas in the moment to catch and shoot. Her height was definitely an asset going after rebounds in the paint on both ends of the court.
These next few athletes were exceptional ball handlers for their teams.
Kamora Cannie was a tenacious defender jumping in front of passing lanes and locking down the ball handler for her opponents. She was instrumental for the Mustang’s run in the second half grabbing steals to push the other direction making some nice dishes along the way. She was directing her teammates where to go in order to score some points. She is patient waiting for the lanes to open up for her to attack the rim.
Olivia Fava drives hard to the hoop putting up a floater in the paint for two points. She crashed boards for the rebound, and she pushed it right up the court for fast breaks. She was instrumental in grabbing steals and scoring on a solo fast break late in the fourth closing in on the lead for her opponents.
Kate McArdle
Kate McArdle
Kate McArdle was a great floor general controlling the tempo for her team and directing her teammates where to go to get some points. She was always where her team needed her to be grabbing rebounds or finding the openings when she wasn’t handling the ball.
Halisi Whitley handles the ball well finding her open teammates and running plays. She finds the open spots without the ball being able to catch and shoot from beyond the arc. She was tough on defense keeping her opponent in front of her leading to turnovers.
