Mansfield, featuring Erin Grant who was on the FIRST girls McDonald’s All-American team in 2002, if you thought otherwise, you are WRONG or were, how can I say this, LIED TO and what Grant did was lead her team to 4 State Championships in what was then the highest division. Nina Norman (Jersey Village) was also on that first team and one more time #ThereIsNoMe , all facts, no fluff
Duncanville held off a rally from Desoto but over the past few years, these 2 teams have been among the best in the state yet they’re in the same district and having seen both a few times this season, I just wanted to take a glimpse and see the progression from the countless talented players on both squads.
I was excited to see a glimpse of Imani Morris Imani Morris 6'4" | C Duncanville | 2023 State TX (Duncanville) who has been plagued by a nagging injury as well as Tajenae Gooden Tajenae Gooden 5'10" | SG Cedar Hill | 2024 State TX who keeps showing she does more than drop the 3, her defense along with playing the passing lane was tough. Speaking of tough, Kaylinn Kemp Kaylinn Kemp 5'9" | CG Duncanville | 2025 State TX and her explosiveness just wowed me as she can blow by defenders with ease. I was also excited to see Desouze handling the ball under pressure, but I hung around for the first half only, I HATE LIVESTREAM yet it got the job done, for me so here are my standouts from what I caught
Desoto
Ma’Riya Vincent Ma’Riya Vincent 6'0" | SF Cy Springs | 2024 State TX
Vincent understands how to put her team on her back, her mindset is “you can’t stop me” and watching her add more every season has been a treat yet what I enjoyed was her finding ways to get points early in the game. She scored around the basket, she showed the jumper yet she attacked and dished for assists
Amari Byles Amari Byles 6'2" | SF Desoto | 2026 State TX
Byles gave me a MONSTER effort, I mean she was scoring with players literally hanging on her and that spoke volumes. She went after rebounds and did a good job on interior defense yet her poise was something else as pressure was irrelevant. As good as she is, #BCSLock, her upside is scary and becoming scarier by the game
Kamora Pruitt Kamora Pruitt 6'2" | SG Desoto | 2026 State TX
Pruitt is long and athletic, which will always be the base, and watching her elevate and drop the jumper looks great live, yet it also looks impressive via LIVESTREAM.
Duncanville
Tristen Taylor Tristen Taylor 5'4" | PG Duncanville | 2023 State TX
Taylor is one of the best point guards in Texas, this isn’t the first time I’ve said that in fact for multiple seasons, I have seen the transformation in so many aspects yet the MAIN thing is that “she makes those around her better”. Yes, she ran her team, controlled the tempo, and set her teammates up for gimmes but she also stretched the defense by dropping jumpers, mid to long range
Mariah Clayton Mariah Clayton 6'0" | SF Duncanville | 2024 State TX
Clayton made my Tip Sheet prior to high school and I LOVE saying I told you even though many never “get it” and watching her “give it” on both ends is always a treat. Her first step to get to the rim, her powerful finishes after contact as well as her body control are always nice, and so is her jumper. On the flip, she defends on the ball and inside the paint, plus she rebounded on both ends
Mann is one of those players I can’t count on to get my adrenaline going because of her acrobatic finishes which continue to amaze me. She understands how to set the defender up to attack yet with her being able to drop the mid to long-range jumper consistently, it’s like picking your poison or punishment. Watching her in the open court and throwing on the money passes in traffic is very nice
