Continue ReadingThe future of girl’s basketball in Kentucky is very bright. We have a ton of young players already showing the impact they can make on the court. In this article, we are going to look at 8 players in the 2027 class that have been showing their potential in the talent-filled 11th Region this season.
Kaleigh Potts
Kaleigh Potts
Potts has certainly been a bright spot for Tates Creek this season, pouring in multiple 20+ point games and even notching a double-double performance. She’s been thrust into a role in which she has the ball in her hands a lot, but she’s shown an ability to handle the ball while facing a lot of pressure. The lefty has good form on her shot and can get it off quickly. She’s a strong defender and is currently averaging 9.4 PPG and 1.2 RPG while shooting over 30% from deep.
Double double for varsity!! TC vs Henry Clay!!! 10 pts and 10 stls! Great win🏀🤍 @LexCrossover @PGHKentucky @PGHAkeem @bpcitadel91 pic.twitter.com/1JrQSjKkvB

Carr’s potential is so high. She is so shifty with the ball and as a scorer. She can finish in creative ways around the basket, but she can score at all 3 levels. She’s averaging 9.1 PPG and 4 RPG this season. Despite being an 8th grader, she’s definitely been a major impact player for the Lady Eagles.

Jaelee Knowles
Jaelee Knowles
Knowles has some really talented guards surrounding her, so the fact that she is trusted to play valuable minutes for her Frederick Douglass squad speaks volumes to her talent level. The thing that makes her so special is her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. She’s a solid defender who can come up with multiple steals and blocks, on top of being an excellent floor general on the other end of the floor. While she can certainly score the ball, she really creates well for her teammates. Knowles is averaging 4 PPG and 3.6 RPG while shooting 45% overall.

Ellie Lavey
Ellie Lavey
Lavey is a versatile player who has had to play a huge role for Dunbar this season. In fact, despite being an 8th grader, she is leading her team in scoring, rebounding, and 3-point percentage. She’s averaging 6.1 PPG, 6.3 RPG, and is shooting over 32% from 3.
Makiyia Wheeler
Makiyia Wheeler
Wheeler’s already tough, but she just keeps getting tougher. For starters, she’s willing to do whatever is needed to help her team win. She consistently plays hard and she can make a big impact on both ends of the floor. She’s got strong handles and court vision as a point guard. She can throw some great passes and she creates good looks for her teammates. Wheeler is averaging 2.7 PPG and 1.4 RPG for one of the top teams in the region. She’s the only middle schooler on Franklin County’s roster and her potential is extremely high.

Eriyaune Daniels
Eriyaune Daniels
Daniels is another 8th grader who has played a big role for Dunbar this season. She’s had multiple double digit scoring games this season and is currently averaging 5 PPG and 4 RPG. She has good handles and is a good defender. It’s not odd to see her name in multiple statistical categories at the end of a game, including steals, assists, and deflections. Flynn is a quick point guard with good vision and strong ball handling skills. She can push the tempo and draws help defense to create great looks for her teammates. She can also score the ball, but she’s played more of a distributor role for the Generals this season. Defensively, she uses her quick hands to get steals and deflections. Flynn’s currently averaging 2 PPG and 0.4 RPG.
Very happy with the start for Lafayette Varsity this early into the season. Scored 23 points, 8 assists, and 5 steals in the first two games of the Adams Buick GMC Holiday Hoopfest. @LexCrossover @PGHAkeem @alyxwhite_ @PGHKentucky pic.twitter.com/r1GlaE7dCv

Kelsie Lawson
Kelsie Lawson
Lawson has shown a ton of potential playing around the basket, but she also exhibits guard skills that adds to her versatility as a player. There are a lot of sophomore and juniors that were already poised for big roles for Henry Clay this season, but in her time from this season, Lawson has shown an ability to step into a much larger role in the near future.
