continues to draw Division I attention, recently adding two more offers to her list. After an unofficial visit and standout performance at UMBC’s elite camp, she picked up an offer from the Retrievers. Just days later, she impressed enough at Austin Peay’s elite camp, and earned another D1 offer. Makiyia now holds four Division I offers, with more likely to come before the start of her junior season. Her recruitment is heating up, and she’s definitely a name to keep on your radar.

moves back into the top 10 and is now the #6 prospect in the class of 2027. She works tirelessly on her game and is the true definition of a “Gym Rat”. Earlier this month she picked up a NAIA offer from the University of Pikeville, followed by a D1 offer from Bellarmine University, and went on a unofficial visit last week to Lindenwood University a D1 school located in St. Charles, Missouri. Makiyia was impressive to say the least and I love when she plays fearless and competes with a chip on her shoulder. She is a stellar ball handler with a lightning-quick first step that allowed her to get to any spot she wanted on the floor. She had some nice press breaks, did a great job finding driving angles to attack, and was unafraid of contact. She closed out well on defense and always got a hand up to contest shots at the perimeter. She sacrificed her body and took a charge in a pivotal part of the game as well.

2027 that stood out amongst great talent at the Nike EYBL Session 1. She dropped a lot of dimes, and showed how much of a willing passer she is. Makiyia also used her speed and quick first step to blow defenders to get points at the rim. Her best game came against Team Durant, she finished with 10 points, 3 steals, 3 assist, 4 rebounds to help her team get the win 66-64.

Franklin County has a very deep roster full of talented players but I think Wheeler is one who can hit a higher gear than most. I’ve seen Makiyia get mad and focused and start to play with an edge. Athletically, Wheeler has the ability to lock down opposing guards but she also has the burst to get past defenders and get into the paint where she can wreak havoc. The Lady Flyers are deep but Makiyia is a true X factor and can ramp their play up a level.

Wheeler is the starting PG for a talented Franklin County team and she has been playing great in the start of her freshman season. She’s so quick and very good with the ball. She can get past defenders and really makes a lot of good stuff happen, both for herself and for her teammates. She can create well off of the bounce, creating open looks for her team in the post or on the perimeter. She also can score herself at all 3 levels. She can knock down jumpers or floaters in the paint or get to the rim. Wheeler is averaging 7.1 PPG and 3.7 RPG while shooting 51.3% from the field and 90% from the free throw line. She’s also got to be averaging multiple assists per game.

Offers: No offers yet, but has already received D1 & D2 interest from a variety of schools
2022-23 Season Stats: 2.8 PPG, 1.3 RPG, 42.3% FG, 22.2% 3FG, 62.5% FT
Outlook: Wheeler already has a special desire to be the best and she will take every step necessary to take her talent as far as it can possibly go. Watch for her to be a major piece to the puzzle for an extremely talented Franklin County team this season. Last year, she was the only middle schooler that made their Varsity squad. While she played valuable minutes then, she now seems to be completely comfortable in her role and is poised to take things to another level this season. Wheeler is very quick with and without the ball and she can get past defenders with ease. She can finish tough baskets at the rim, knock down shots, or distribute the ball. She continues to thrive on big stages, and I think she’s going to open a ton of eyes this season as more and more people get the chance to see her talent.
