Expert Analysis
Akeem Webb | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Nia helped bolster the backcourt for Frederick Douglass, providing valuable minutes off the bench while averaging 3.9 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. A guard with a lot of speed to her game, she is most effective as a driver who finishes well at the rim, and she showed noticeable improvement as a perimeter shooter this season. She’s also a strong on-ball defender with good lateral quickness.

Nia made an immediate impact as soon as she entered the game, making a three from the wing, taking full advantage of an open look. She used her tight handle and quickness to get to her spots off the dribble and was locked in defensively, bringing energy on both sides of the floor.

Nia was in rare form at the Expo on Saturday. She was a blur in transition and her handles are something else. Nia put a defender on skates with a sick step-back move then pulled up from three with ease. She also showed nice touch on a floater in the lane. Don’t be surprised if she has a breakout sophomore season at Douglass.

has been on a journey in her basketball career. She played on varsity at LCA in middle school, then went to Great Crossing last year for her freshman season and is now at Frederick Douglass. But if you ask me I think Douglass is the right fit for her. Nia is more of a pure point guard and the way she sees the floor and facilitates, will allow

to play off the ball and looked to score more. I think Nia could have a similar impact as Jermyra Christian did during the 2022-2023 season.

Nia Carr—A tremendous on the ball defender that all show the ability to knock down shot. Her athleticism jumps off the floor. High level passer.
Championship game: Knocked down a huge middy off the dribble to cut the lead to 3. Battle on the glass and for loose balls like her life depended on it with the game on the line.

Carr is definitely your do-it-all kid. The first thing that I noticed about Nia was her lightning quick speed. When she turns on the jets, you are not catching her. Carr is a highly skilled athlete! She will surprise you at the rim with her craftiness. It was my first time watching Nia and I don’t think that I can say what she brings to a team in one article! I know if Carr keeps working hard, there is no denying her ability to produce at the next level when the time comes! Keep your eyes on this one!

Just a supreme athlete! Has all the tools to be a big time player. Plays with great effort and intensity on defense. Never gives up on plays. Never allows blow bys. And is athletic enough to contest shots at the rim. Her 15 points on Saturday morning was impressive, but I loved her defense (3 steals and a block).

#23 Nia Carr SG, PG -HS 2027 Lexington, Kentucky (Great Crossing High School)
Gosh, Nia Carr is lightning fast–and she knows how to use it on both ends. Offensively, she’s incredibly hard to stay in front of, and is a developing scorer around the rim. The float game is already nice. When she gets out in transition she has great instincts knowing what gaps to hit, or when to simply pitch ahead with the easy pass. Defensively, her athleticism and “want to” make her a menace.

2022-23 Season Stats: 9.7 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 34.9% FG, 28.5% 3FG, 46.6% FT
Outlook: I had heard a lot about Carr prior to the Freshman Showcase, but after getting to watch her play in person, I can confirm that everything positive I had heard about her game was definitely true. She’s a player that can really impact the game in many ways. Her quick handles and IQ already make her a difficult defensive assignment, but it only gets more difficult when you factor in her scoring ability. She can get to the rim, but she can just as easily kick it to an open teammate, and she switches things up very well. She’s already played and established herself at the Varsity level, but will be wearing a different jersey in her freshman year. Expect big things out of Great Crossing with Carr.

, Carr may have been my pick for MOP of camp. Nia has some high level ball handling and can not only get past defenders but also has the ability to hit runners and floaters that many her age haven’t acquired yet. Great Crossing has a really good one in
