Monterey featuring [player_tooltip player_id='307744' first='Aaliyah' last='Chavez'] and [player_tooltip player_id='391608' first='Kelly' last='Mora'] has been tabbed as the "team to beat" all season in 5A and they're one step away from heading to the STATE SEMIFINALS as they take on Lubbock Cooper in Region 1 while Frisco Liberty knocked off previously unbeaten Mount Pleasant to face McKinney North who edged Frisco Memorial 49-46 and the winner will represent Region 2

I caught the latter two games and here are the STANDOUTS

FRISCO LIBERTY

[player_tooltip player_id='158867' first='Keyera' last='Roseby']-5'11 SG/SF [2024]

Roseby scored around the basket yet also off the dribble yet watching her rebound, on both ends, handle the ball in the open court, and nail the pull-up jumper was more than solid. She applied pressure on defense and even played the passing lane

Journee Harris-5'5 PG [2023]

Harris did a good job of not only controlling the tempo but seeing the floor and I can't say enough about her intensity on defense as she goes hard from baseline to baseline

[player_tooltip player_id='510461' first='Jacy' last='Abii']-6'1 SF [2026]

Abii has been very good for a long time yet watching her progression over the years to add even more to her impressive game has her atop the 2026 list when I drop it. Speaking of drops, she showed the drop step, and finished around the basket with either hand, after contact yet her being able to handle the ball and create her shot from outside had me smiling

MOUNT PLEASANT

Jordyn Hargrave-5'5 SG [2023]

Hargrave has a very nice first step, it enabled her to get by the defender and score off the dribble yet it also helped her not only to keep the defender guessing and drop the outside shot but play off of her. Nice court vision needs to be mentioned

[player_tooltip player_id='432233' first='Aziyah' last='Ferrier']-6'1 F [2025]

Ferrier finds ways to put the ball in the basket and her scoring on putbacks, yes she rebounds on both ends, as well as off the dribble, and from outside has always been a joy to watch. I also liked her handling the ball in n the open court as well as seeing the floor yet her playing the passing lane was another bright spot

McKINNEY NORTH

Ciara Harris-5'8 SG [2024]

Harris was hard to handle as she showed the stop and pop in transition, the pull-up jumper with a hand in her face as well as just blowing by defenders to score off the dribble. On the flip, she applied heat defensively and that helped create turnovers

[player_tooltip player_id='158861' first='Kaelyn' last='Hamilton']-5'9 PG [2024]

Hamilton continues to elevate her game as she elevates on her jumper yet I was equally impressed with her body control and finishing strongly after contact. She saw the floor, controlled the tempo, and played the passing lane

FRISCO MEMORIAL

Mackenzie Askew-5'9 CG [2023]

Askew brought it on both ends, with solid "on the ball" defense as well as attacking the basket strongly

[player_tooltip player_id='849941' first='JJ' last='Echols']-5'10 SG [2024]

Echols hit the boards hard on both ends, scored around the basket, putbacks included as well as off the dribble, and finished after contact
