Jamecia Huntley has been a great addition for the undefeated West Rowan Falcons who will be competing for the 3A state championship this weekend. Her versatility is eye candy for coaches as she can handle the ball, drive aggressively to the hoop, and score at the rim in addition to her shooting on all levels. Her length is an asset on defense being able to deflect passes and inhibit her opponents from running their offensive sets. She can get up high blocking shots as well.
Highlights
Kairah Dixon Booker is another versatile athlete helping lead her North Meck Vikings to the “Elite 8” of the NCHSAA 4A playoffs. Even though she isn’t a point guard, she was certainly controlling the tempo in the game against Lake Norman knowing when to push the ball up the court or settle things down to run an offensive play. She drives hard to the hoop finishing on both sides, and she is sure to get rebounds on both ends of the court. She sees the floor well finding her open teammates as they cut to the basket to get some points.
Nevaeh Farmer is another North Meck Viking who has shown all four years of her high school career what a dominant ball handler she is. She has great change of speed moves to blow by her opponents, and she can pull up in a split second knocking down her shot while her defender is on skates. On defense, she is a nuisance knocking the ball away as guards try to dribble by her. She is quick laterally keeping her opponents in front of her. There’s a reason she received multiple Player of the Year awards.
Zion Duncan played her senior season at Stuart Cramer where she brought a huge inside game for the team. She seals off her opponents well making it easy to get her the entry pass and score. She can score off the pass, or she can show off some power dribbles and up and under moves to work for her points. Her ability to rebound on both ends is certainly an asset for her team using offensive rebounds for second chance points.
Zahra Douglas had a record breaking year as a Marvin Ridge Maverick, and it’s no surprise how she did it once you see her play. She can get inside for rebounds with ease, and she sees the floor well making her move or finding her open teammate. Her ability to shoot from anywhere and go against all five positions were critical for her team’s success this season. On defense, she has no problem guarding around the perimeter or getting inside protecting the paint.
Aleysha Hill seems to be a magnet for the ball on both ends, but it is very entertaining when she shows this off on defense. She strips the ball away from her opponents, and her speed and explosiveness helps her get to the other end of the court scoring on a fast break easily. As a ball handler, she knows the importance of timing making sure she picks the right moments to dish the ball or take it all the way to the hoop herself.
Mackenzie Chabala is a three level scorer, and she can certainly find an open teammate after drawing opponents towards her. She’s a true hustler that every coach wants going after loose balls and drawing charges no matter who she is going up against. She can dish it to her teammates from anywhere on the court, and she does a nice job getting inside for some tough rebounds.
