There are plenty of unsigned seniors across the state who deserve a chance to play at the next level. Here are some of the players in our current rankings that remain unsigned.
Faith Robertson reached the 1,000 point milestone this season, but her record breaking career goes far beyond that. For McMichael High School, she holds the single game, single season, and career assists record which shows just how much of an offensive threat she is. Whether she is scoring the ball herself or making the perfect dish to her teammates, she is getting her team some points. She penetrates the defense with her dribbles opening up the court for her teammates, and she’s quick with ball fakes losing defenders to blow by them. Her high motor will certainly play well at the next level.
Jyana Salton had a phenomenal season averaging 16.6 points a game, 5.4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2.9 steals showing how much of an asset she can be on all areas of the court. She is a sharp shooter knocking down her three point shot, and she can drive hard to the hoop no matter who is trying to stop her. Her ability to handle the ball opens up the court for her teammates to knock down their own shot, and she shows a lot of strength battling in the paint for rebounds on both ends. Her IQ knowing how to move the ball and grab a steal on defense is definitely fun to watch.
Christiana Young has been making a splash at the high school level surpassing 2,000 points in her career. She’s another guard who contributes on all areas of the stat sheet. For example, this past season, she’s averaged 17 points a game, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. She’s so dynamic getting to the hoop and drawing defenders towards her to open up the court for others. She’s a three level scorer seeing the floor well knowing how to move to create space for herself or jump in the gaps for the open look. One thing that always stands out to me when she plays is how much fun it seems like she is having playing at a high level of basketball.
Jamyah Blakeney has been making her case for years, and her senior season was no exception. She averaged a near 30 points, and what is even more remarkable is she about had a double-double average with over 9 rebounds a game. She has a high motor pushing the tempo on the court, and she has great length that she uses to elevate up and over her opponents to shoot the ball. When she plays, it’s as if she executes moves perfectly that you learn in drills knowing how to apply these skills to a game situation.
Staci Williams was a McDonald’s All-American nominee this year to nobody’s surprise. She has such a pretty shot from deep, but her court vision is what sets her apart. Her ability to make full court passes even with one hand splitting defenders is fun to watch, and she can also push the tempo handling the ball up the court herself. She thinks two steps ahead knowing how to move the ball to get some points for her team. Thinking ahead happens on the defensive side of the ball, too, being able to read her opponents and come up with the steal protecting the basket at all costs.
