Continue ReadingI was able to catch quite a few games on Saturday. I haven’t watched all teams yet but will get that done tomorrow. There was some good, competitive, hard fought games. Here’s a few of the standouts from the day. There were many more, which I will continue to try to get names associated with the games.
She is a skilled and smooth player with a lot of room to grow. She is athletic and tends to make tough plays look easy at times. She is great in the open floor and can finish well around the hoop with the crafty, and the newly patented wrong foot finish. She can shoot, and she plays good defense with that athletic ability. I would say that her ability to get to the basket stood out as one of her greatest strengths. She also had a few breakaway layups that were contested, only she was able to finish as I described above. Really high upside for this young player, who just looks like a basketball player with that athletism. She is able to convert tough shots on a consistent basis and has good ball handling skills to set that up. She looked impressive in the games I watched.
Lia can shoot the lights out, and also makes tough contested shots. She hits tough threes of the step back variety and is able to catch and shoot with a quick and pretty release. Virtually every time she was left anywhere near open she would knock down shots. She also showed some ability to work on her defender and get herself to the basket. When she gets hot, which is quite ofter look out. She is likely to torch the nets for some big time scoring games and she has turned herself into even more of a complete player

I listed her as a combo guard. She could be listed as a small forward, point guard, or shooting guard. She is that versatile. Although I had her name wrong, it is irrelevant when it comes to time to perform on the court. She has good size and can play any position on the floor. She often brought the ball up. She has outstanding shot mechanics that should continue to be better. She knocked down several threes. She is also strong enough and physical, getting baskets in the paint. She rebounds and is a good all around player. I think she had one of the best games or two of any of her teammates, scoring from all over the floor. Tough, versatile, and solid with the ball.

I had to ask who she was and her coach explained to me that her future is in soccer. Well, that’s awfully impressive since she may have been the best player in the game that I watched. At least for most of it. She got buckets from mid-range, threes, and got to the basket with a lot of creativity. She has great ball skills and will be a great point guard or shooting guard. She didn’t show many weaknesses. If any, and should be an outstanding player, should she choose to continue playing basketball as well as soccer beyond high school. She was great at attacking the basket and changing speeds. She is class of 2026, which I was not expecting. She’s got game.

I hope I have the correct player here. She was a good compliment to Hanson from the outside knocking down threes. She also, is an outstanding shooter who can get hot in a hurry. The two took turns hitting long range shots in their win over a tough Tree of Hope team led by a couple of outstanding guards. I don’t know who they were but they wore number 3 and 5,the latter which I had for 19 in her last game of the day. They were interchangeable on the perimeter. Number 3 finished with at least 4 threes and 5 had a couple of her own along with playing well from the guard position handling the ball and running the offense. Number 5 uses the triple threat and does it as it is meant to be. She can go by the defense, hit shots, and make made some great passes, including crossing it to a wide open shooter. A lost art that is lost on me.
Annie showed some of the that toughness on the interior that made her the defensive player of the year in her conference this season. She rebounds well, and is aggressive in the paint, both scoring with some nice footwork and offensive rebounds. She has good length and athletic ability to cause problems all over the floor on defense. A defense that picked up before half court and caused a lot of turnovers.rn
Highlights
She might not have had her usual shooting day, She made shots but missed some that I’m sure she feels she should have made. That’s because she is a great shooter in her own right. She is a great ball handling guard and is able to penetrate the defense most any time she wanted to. She plays with control and takes care of the ball despite the constant pressure she was facing. She is good with drive and kicks or dropping it off to an open teammate in the post. She is a multi faceted player who is able to play much bigger than she is with her excellent ball skills. rn

She was excellent in the game I watched her She can really handle the ball and gets to the basket at will. She had an unofficial 16 at the half of that one. She didn’t play much in the second half as the game was out of reach. She gets downhill with a purpose, and did so whenever she wanted to. She made threes, crafty finishing on the break, and was one of the best ball handling guards I watched Saturday.
