I scouted the Magic Basketball 2024 17U team’s first game of the tournament a 56-51 loss to Missouri Flight 2024.
Here is a look at four players who performed well for the Magic, a team compromised of players from small western Kansas high schools.
Tayten Dewey Tayten Dewey 5'9" | SF Rawlins County | 2025 State KS , 5’10”, SF, Rawlins County
Dewey can play four of the five positions in an offense. She was tied for the leading scorer for the Magic with 16 points. She shot 6-for-15 from the field and made two 3-point baskets. The Rawlins County prospect also added five rebounds, one blocked shot, and one steal. She will be a match-up problem for multiple teams. Dewey is also a solid passer and she makes the offense click.
Halle Jones Halle Jones 5'5" | PG Holcomb | 2025 State KS , 5’8”, PF, Holcomb
Jones is more of a physical threat than Dewey but does not quite have the same shot from distance. She led the team with seven rebounds and also scored 16 points. Jones works hard to get the inside position but had a better night rebounding on the offensive end, rather than on the defensive glass. She prefers playing with her back to the rim and can drive in either direction.
Logan Nolan Logan Nolan 5'3" | PG Colby | 2025 State KS , 5’4”, PG, Colby
Nolan serves as the “Little Engine That Could” for the Magic 2024 squads. She is a feisty point guard, who is not scared to go down inside and mix it up with the tall timbers on the court. Nolan scored five points on 2-of-5 shooting from the field and collected four rebounds. She is not afraid to drive the lane but looks to find an open teammate rather than looking to score. Her one 3-point basket of the night was a beautiful shot from the top of the key in a crucial moment in the game.
Alisabeth Barton Alisabeth Barton 5'6" | PG Colby | 2025 State KS , 5’7”, SG, Colby
Barton is the shut-down defender on this team. She finished with five steals, eight points, and two rebounds in the loss. She likes to drive on the offensive end rather than shoot jumpers. She was limited in action due to foul trouble. However, she is the one player on the team you can point to and say “Go guard their best” and she would not blink for a second.
