The event featured a three-point contest as well as a featured game between the top SGV/IE players against a collection of other top seniors dubbed the “Road” All-Stars. I was able to attend the event and here’s a look at the first group of five standouts I saw.
1. Dalayja Floyd-Hurt – Crenshaw
Floyd-Hurt is a solid combo guard who is capable of running the offense or playing alongside another capable ball-handler. She’s quick in transition and able to get out and beat the defense down court. She can sprint out off ball too and acts as a finisher on the break. Good catch and shoot three-point shooter who can also use shot fakes to drive to the basket. Able to shoot off dribble.
2.
Sydney Nelson

– Roosevelt Eastvale
Nelson is a capable scoring wing. She handles the ball in transition and can go coast to coast and finish. Able to run the offense or play off ball alongside another ball-handler. In the halfcourt, she’s able to get to the basket or she can hit the pull-up jumper. Able to finish through traffic. She can also step out and knock down the three-point shot. Comfortable creating her own shot.
3.
Nicole Chuang

– West Torrance
A Master’s University commit, Chuang is elite ball-handler and playmaker. She is tough to guard with the ball in her hands. Crafty player who can find the openings in the defense and does a good job finding open teammates. Offensively, she has a good shot from midrange and from the three-point line. Able to shoot off the dribble. Consistent step-back jumper. Ability to get past her defender and get into the lane.
4. Alyssa Schuetze – Great Oak
Schuetze is a lefty shooter who is a wing/forward. Maybe able to play small ball center in certain lineups. Good shooter from three-point range. She can shoot off the catch and dribble into a pull-up from distance. Also able to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. Defensively, she gets back in transition and does a good job using her length/size to contest shots.
5. Makena Ching – Vista Murrieta
What stood out to me most about Ching was her activity on the glass. She has good size for a forward and is able to establish position and grab offensive rebounds into put backs. Good screen setter. She’s a finisher in the paint who uses her size well to take advantage of smaller defenders. Boxes out and hits the defensive glass as well.
