It’s also a time where a group of individuals can come together making memories on the road as they go to battle on the basketball court. Let’s take a look at some of the top athletes in the class of 2024 that are making the most of their last summers playing basketball.
Mikayla Taborn Mikayla Taborn 6’2″ | PF Franklinton | 2024 State NC has an arsenal of post moves that she can use turning to score on the block or using power dribbles to create her own space. She doesn’t back away from contact either being able to finish with some old fashioned three point plays. Her knowledge of offensive moves translates well to defense as she can easily get in the way of her opponents blocking shots in the paint knowing how they were going to try to get by her in the first place.
Halisi Whitley Halisi Whitley 5’6″ | CG Grace Christian | 2025 State NC is an athlete who can absolutely set the nets on fire shooting well from around the perimeter. She handles the ball well bringing it up the court, and she moves well without the ball finding the open spot to take her shot. She’s a tough defender, too, knowing how to strip the ball from her opponents pushing it up the court for more points as she can finish at the rim with ease.
Jianna Holmes Jianna Holmes 5’8″ | PG Winston Salem Christian | 2024 State NC has had a dominant March and April playing at a high level against some very touch competition even leading to some teams trying to double team her to slow her down. She attacks the basket with ease knowing how to get open and create her own space, or she makes the dish easily to her teammates for their own points. She plays with the same calm composure throughout every game knowing how to attack gaps and get some points when her team needs it most.

Lauren Arnold Lauren Arnold 5’11” | SF West Rowan | 2024 State NC made a team change this summer playing with Charlotte Dream Elite, and she continues to shine with her new team. She can do a little bit of everything on the court handling the ball up the court on a fast break off of a defensive rebound she earned to attacking the lane putting up a floater in the paint to posting up on the block and scoring some points from there. She can guard a range of players, too, being able to close out quickly around the perimeter and show her strength in the paint against post players.
Sheree Gidney Sheree Gidney 5’10” | PF Hickory Ridge | 2024 State NC is tough in the paint moving all around the lane to get open. She can catch the pass, turn to square up, and score some points, or she can handle the ball driving hard to the hoop for her points. Don’t leave her open around the perimeter either as she can definitely hit the three point shot. On defense, she’s aggressive going after rebounds and using her length to block shots preventing her opponents from getting to the basket.

Olivia Burke Olivia Burke 5’8″ | CG Porter Ridge | 2024 State NC is a guard who knows how to go. She has a high motor seeing the floor and filling the lanes attacking the basket getting open with her own handles. She hustles on both ends of the court, too, going after loose balls and being ready to block shots on fast breaks. She makes excellent decisions knowing when to attack, step back and let her team set a play up, or pull up for her shot that she can drain from anywhere on the court.
