As a lifelong Kansan and someone who has traveled the entire state for multiple jobs, there is no doubt in mind that the different regions in Kansas offer different unique aspects. However, I am not going to go down a rabbit hole and talk about all the differences; but I am going to organize my two new scouting reports breaking them up by the Eastern and Western parts of the states with the assistance of two new fancy graphics created by Prep Networks Graphic Design team.
The staff at PGH Kansas is working on updating the Class of 2024 rankings so here is a look at players who love to dish the ball to open players leading to easy baskets.
Here are five players from the Western part of the state, which I roughly define as typically as schools west of Interstate 135.
Dakota Kattenberg Dakota Kattenberg 5'7" | CG Smith Center | 2024 State KS , 5’7”, SF, Smith Center
Rogers finished her junior season with 104 assists in 23 games played. Kattenberg is a scoring force inside who gets double-teamed regularly. She can find teammates off said double teams or open players against a zone defense.
Josey Kennedy Josey Kennedy 5'6" | PG Hoxie | 2024 State KS , 5’5”, PG, Hoxie
Kennedy can dish the ball as well as put the biscuit in the basket. She scored 18.4 points per game during 322 games and dished out 86 assists. She is a three-level scorer and is really hard to stop when she is driving the court. Kennedy is currently ranked No. 70 in the PGH Kansas Class of 2024 player rankings.
Kennedy Werth Kennedy Werth 5'7" | PG Quinter | 2024 State KS , 5’7”, PG, Quinter
Werth finished with 94 assists during the 2022-2023 season. Werth is a defensive wiz who pushes the basketball after a steal. A ton of her assists immediately follow a turnover created by the Bulldog guard.
Camryn Hutchinson, 5’5”, PG, Smith Center
Hutchinson finished her junior season with 84 assists and will look to cut down her turnover total of 93 during her senior campaign. During her junior season, she averaged 6.3 rebounds per game. Hutchinson gives the Lady Reds a solid one-two passing punch when she shares the court with Kattenberg.
Hailey Contreras Hailey Contreras 5'5" | PG Liberal | 2024 State KS , 5’6”, G, Liberal
Contreras like Hoxie’s Kennedy can score and pass. She averaged 12 points per game during her junior season while adding 66 assists. Contreras is also a defender on Liberal’s soccer squad. Contreras is currently ranked No. 22 in the PGH Class of 2024 rankings.
