Over the next few weeks I am going to be making a series of articles that will have a list of some of the best players I saw this spring at their perspective positions.
(In total for the series there will be 6 articles, covering the 5 positions on the court, plus the CG position.) Next up in the series is the shooting guard position. In no particular order, lets meet the players.
Reagan Sipla Reagan Sipla 6'1" | SG St. Charles North | 2024 State IL – 2024 – Full Package Elite 17U
Reagan Sipla Reagan Sipla 6'1" | SG St. Charles North | 2024 State IL was a player that I covered in one of my first tournaments on the road this spring. When sitting down to watch her compete you could tell right away that she was a natural shooter. A player that was able to let it fly right over half court and make it look like it would be going in, in a majority of those attempts. Nowadays when you breakdown the shooting guard position it can be a player that does a lot of different things for their teams, but overall they need to be a knock down shooter through it all. Thats what Sipla is. Whenever she has a clean look, the defense should just start heading down the floor. Easily one of the most pure shooters I’ve seen thus far in 2023.
Joycelyn Moore – 2024 – CY Select 17U Elite
Joycelyn Moore would more-so fall into the PG category at the college level because of her size but when she is letting it go from behind the three point line and seeing them go in, that’s when she is at her best. Moore was spectacular when I saw her compete this season. She put together a game where she was “unconscious” from the field shooting the ball at all three levels. She started off by hitting three’s, and moved in from there. Other than actually shooting the ball, a shooting guard needs to be able to score at will and Moore does that. I’m not sure where she will end up playing college ball but whoever gets her is getting a player who is a bucket. That’s for sure.
Greta Dillinger Greta Dillinger 5'10" | SG North Polk | 2025 State IA – 2025 – Pure Prep 16U (1)
Greta Dillinger Greta Dillinger 5'10" | SG North Polk | 2025 State IA has been making some big waves throughout Iowa this spring AAU season and she deserves it. A player who is really dedicated to the game for the love of it. When she is on the court she seems like she couldn’t be happier and that says a lot. When it comes to the skill part, Dillinger can shoot and score it. Her form is balanced with good footwork on every catch while understanding where she wants to get to on the floor to shoot the ball. I’m expecting a big finish to the summer for Dillinger with her Pure Prep team leading into the high school season. We will just have to wait and see though.
Jensyn Storhoff – 2026 – Air Minnesota 2024/2026
Jensyn Storhoff is another player that I think will end up being a natural point guard at the end of her high school career but right now she can really play the 1-2 position, depending on what is needed of her. Storhoff’s game is simple. She has a nice “bag” of offensive skill moves but most of the time just keeps it simple more than anything else. She plays what the defense gives her. She can score at all three levels while being able to distribute to open teammates off of the catch or dribble. It’s pretty impressive to watch. The future is bright for Storhoff. You can see her putting it together and starting to thrive.
Alyssa Epps Alyssa Epps 5'9" | SG Montini | 2024 State IL – 2024 – Chicago Hoops Express 2024
Alyssa Epps Alyssa Epps 5'9" | SG Montini | 2024 State IL may not be labeled a “shooter” by to many around her but from what I’ve seen on a few different occasions, she can shoot it consistently from behind the three point line, as well as pull up in the mid-range or get all the way to the basket for a finish at the rim. Epps has been getting some college interest as of late and that’s going to continue. A player that you can trust on the floor in big moments to understand what is going on and what is needed for everyone else around her. That’s what college coaches thrive for. I’m going to see Epps and her Chicago Hoops Express 2024 team this July, I’m interested to see what they will bring to the table after a month in the lab.
Anna Campanelli Anna Campanelli 5'10" | SG Huntley | 2025 State IL – 2025 – IL Lady Lightning 17U
Anna Campanelli Anna Campanelli 5'10" | SG Huntley | 2025 State IL is a shooting guard who can shoot it a bit but more-so, she understands how to score really well. She does an exceptional job working off of the ball and cutting toward the hoop for an open look. In the few contest I’ve seen her compete in, that was one thing that was constant. Her production off of the ball. That is an ability not many talk about in high school. A lot of great scorer are ball dominate, when you find one that is not, it’s interesting. It speaks to how hard she works to get open and to catch in the correct spots. If she continues to grow confidence and expand her game, watch out. She is going to be playing at a successful division 1 program before you know it.
Alana Ross – 2024 – Peoria Pride 17U
Alana Ross displayed an elite shooting ability this spring when she was on the court. Ross was lighting it up from everywhere on the floor. It didn’t matter if it was next to the basket or next to the half-court line, Alana was letting it fly at a high and efficient rate. On the flip side, she was also lock down when it came to defending the three ball and smaller guards. She did everything in her power to contest her opponents shot while staying down and disciplined. When I saw this team compete they played with 5 players and no substitutions. On top of that, they played man-2-man the entire contest. Showing the heart they have to go out there and compete.
Alyssa Ross – 2024 – Peoria Pride 17U
Alyssa Ross has a lot that could be said about her that I said about her sister above. More-so than anything I would say that Alyssa plays a little better with the ball in her hands compared to her sister, who creates off of the catch extremely well. Either way, both of these girls can make it rain. Alyssa is a player that you need to defend with a hand up anytime she received the ball over the half-court line. She has confidence to shoot it, while knowing that once she sees her defender start to jump at her shot, she can blow by and find an open spot closer to the hoop to look to finish the play. This summer I hope to see this team compete again. It’s always nice to see a team out there that truly plays for one another, this group does that without question.
