Numerous 2024s are off to good starts. Now I turn to look at the newest upperclassmen, the 2025s. I first looked at some bigs of the class, now enjoy a look at the guards.
Rylee Boyes Rylee Boyes 5'6" | CG Galena | 2025 State KS , 5’6″, CG, Galena, Missouri Select – There is a great deal to like about Boyes’ game. She has good transition speed, moves well into space, and is a very good perimeter shooter. Boyes also finishes through contact. I am really looking forward to seeing more.
Oen Deters Oen Deters 5'6" | SG Centralia | 2025 State KS , 5’6″, PG, Centralia, SSA – I have enjoyed watching Deters play for a couple years now. She has good handles, is high IQ, and just has a mature game. Deters leaves it all on the floor. I have yet to see her take a play off. A terrific shooter with 3/4 court range, she is a solid passer in a variety of situations.
Brynnae Johnson Brynnae Johnson 5'8" | CG Lawrence | 2025 State KS , 5’7″, PG, Lawrence, Earl Watson Academy – The 2023 class had S’Mya Nichols, the 2024 has Jadyn Wooten Jadyn Wooten 5'6" | PG Blue Valley | 2024 State KS . Next in the line of players with ridiculous offensive game is without question Johnson. Explosive off the bounce, creative on the finish, and a solid mid-range and perimeter shooting threat she is nearly impossible for most defenders to guard alone. She will once again lead a fast, deep, athletic Chesty Lions back court that can be counted upon to fly all over the court defensively like they did a season ago on their run to the 6A state tournament.
Molly Martin Molly Martin 5'7" | CG Hays | 2025 State KS , 5’7″, CG, Hays, SSA – The unselfish ringleader of the Indians offense continues to show serious quickness, the ability to make plays, and finishing ability with speed. With her length offenses need to make crisp, wise decisions passing or risk gifting transition baskets with Martin spying off the ball. She is growing in her consistency as a perimeter shooter. With growth in physical strength her formidability finishing with and defending the ball will grow.
Valerie Norwood Valerie Norwood 5'7" | CG Wellington | 2025 State KS , 5’8″, CG, Wellington, Kansas United – I have had a couple opportunities to see Norwood play against very strong opposition. Opponents have to be on their toes and ready because Norwood brings it. All game. Every game. A physical, solidly built, all-state player who handles and attacks with purpose Norwood is especially noticeable with her scoring and old-fashioned three point play generating. Easily overlooked is her quick hands defensively.
Landry O’Brien Landry O’Brien 5'8" | SG Labette County | 2025 State KS , 5’8″, PG, Labette County, Missouri Legacy – O’Brien transferred in from Oklahoma prior to the 2023 season. Very quick with the first step and as a perimeter defender, she has solid transition speed with the ball and effective finishing ability. O’Brien’s ability to move well into space creates mid-range and three ball shooting opportunities, opening up opportunities for teammates to benefit from her passing as well.
Amelya Vance Amelya Vance 5'4" | CG Andover | 2025 State KS , 5’4″, PG, Andover, Kansas United – Vance has come a long way in just over a year. Since I saw her at the Salina Invitational against Liberal in January, 2022, her handling; strength; confidence; and diversification as a scoring threat; and lateral quickness have matured very well. I look forward to catching her at exposure events and playing with her Trojan teammates in the months ahead.
Alana Webb Alana Webb 5'4" | PG Wichita Southeast | 2025 State KS , 5’6″, SG, Wichita Southeast, Kansas Elite Heat – After seeing what she contributed to the Buffaloes success at the 6A tournament in March it was great to see her play again in the early club ball environment. The long ball threat is a physical ball player that does not back down from anybody. Terrific hops.
Brittan Zeka Brittan Zeka 5'10" | CG Wellington | 2025 State KS , 5’10”, CG, Wellington, Kansas United – Zeka is among the stronger perimeter shooters in the state. Quick and fast with a steady, fluid shot Zeka’s size and shot elevation is a also a pile separator at the position. She fights and competes with even the quickest of off-the-bounce players to challenge dime drops and finishes. Nothing comes easy against her and if a mistake is made, off the races she will go the other way. A walking three point play.
