That school was Presbyterian College in Clinton and the coach is Alaura Sharp. While mostly Palmetto State teams took part, North Carolina and Georgia were also represented this past Monday.
We at Prep Girls Hoops made the trip up to Laurens County for the day’s festivities. We start with a look at rising seniors that turned in stellar performances.
A.C. Reynolds, a 4A team from Asheville was matched up against a 5A team from South Carolina in Dutch Fork early Monday afternoon at Presbyterian College. Janus led what was an imposing offensive effort for the Rockets as they defeated the Silver Foxes. A good deal of what she did was via the 3-point shot as she made three of her attempts by way of downtown. In addition, she establishes herself as a vocal leader for her team and can deliver creative finishes at the rim when she does drive to the basket. Janus also understands when to pass and when to score.
Southards’ career appears to be going in only one direction and it is north. She and her Rabun County Wildcats matched up against South Carolina-based Wren in one of the day’s games and the Hurricanes had absolutely no answer for her. Southards began much of the contest by showcasing what she can do from behind the 3-point line. As the game went on, more of her complete skillset began to shine through – including her ability to connect in the midrange game, haul in valuable rebounds and draw contact to get to the free throw line. She also displays her versatility with a knack for finding productive minutes as either a wing or at the two. Her stellar play even earned her an offer from Blue Hose coach Alaura Sharp.
Phillips is ready to fill up the win column for the Vikings in 2023-24. Spartanburg will enter said 2023-24 season with a veteran core – and that should work wonders for a Vikings team that is part of a very fluid and competitive 5A landscape. Phillips typically operates as a one in the backcourt. She is very gifted as a ball handler and in attacking the basket. She also has no issues with getting to the free throw line on the heels of drawing contact and can be relied upon on both ends of the floor with consistency. Phillips played her first season at the varsity level as an eighth grader.

Miller is another element of what will be a veteran nucleus for Spartanburg in the coming season. When the Vikings took on Belton-Honea Path in one of the final matchups of Monday’s play at Presbyterian, the Bears had very few answers for Miller. Whether it was her ability to attack the rim, her willingness to draw contact to get to the free throw line or displaying her accuracy from behind the arc. Miller was one element of what was a well-oiled machine for the Vikings as they put together one of the more commanding victories of the day to dispatch of Belton-Honea Path.
